Message: check engine light came on when I started my 1999 Dakota V-6 automatic. Did notice when I started to drive there was a high shift point to second gear. This did not do this until this light came on. There were instances before this light came on while cruising on the highway the engine would be surging and noticed tach needle fluctuating between 1,000 and 2,000 rpms.
