i actually found the site to be quite useful when needed some info and reading the past experiences from other dak owners. Dont know why anyone would pay to be a member here tho, i dont really know what the perks are but just my 2 bits.

It's not so much about perks, it's about support, community (although it can get a bit rough at times) and value. Maintaining a website is not cheap; this one is no exception. The few ads you see here do not support this site alone - there are real people, working at keeping it up to date in the backend (no jokes). Membership not only helps cover operation costs, but gives each of us members investment in the DodgeDakotas.com community and a few priveleges non-members do not have, just to distinguish us from the masses.
Oh, and it's about Dakotas, and about the people who drive them.
There is a wealth of truly good information here, whether you struggle with getting more juice out of your V6, love to pull freight trains, fly off the big whoops, or just marvel at how stylish these trucks truly are.
Before buying my Dak, I spent a lot of time here - getting information about Dakota strengths and weaknesses. Armed with that information, I was able to make an intelligent decision (although I wish I could have afforded a 4.7) on which Dak to buy and I am very happy with it - and its value.
Every mod I do to my Dak is preceded by considerable research here (other sites, too - but this one gets most of my time). If we find great pricing, we share that with everybody - not just members (you're welcome).
My truck now makes significantly more power, sounds good, handles and tows better, has a nice sound system, and is darn good looking - thanks to all the good advice I have gleaned from these forums.
I continue to learn new things just about every time I check in - whether about the latest on LED lighting, speed trix, or who is being the biggest flaming jerk.
I am glad I joined!

Yeah other sites have everthing you listed, such as clubgp.com or grandprix.net, but they have all of this for FREE!!!! Sure it's usefull knowledge, but why pay for it, when it's like a reference at a library??? Since this seems to be one of the only dodge dakota forums I have seen(the most put together anyway), obtaining financing for it should be no problem at all. That is if you were more business oriented. ITS CALLED SPONSORS, and if the dakota is such a great truck, then you should have no problem finding them. Here's the way it works:
1. You find sponsors that sells your trucks most popular accessories, audio equipment, performance parts, etc.. and give them some sort of busines plan on your site.
2. The plan contains ways which you will generate revenue to there sites...(if so many people have a dakota then they will buy this stuff).
3. The sites pay for you to stay online, by you the owner of this site posting banners of their sites, and efficient and safe ways to get to there sites.
4. Everyone is happy, and everyone finds things much easier and usually cheaper. How do you think GM, and Ford owners do it???
Now reconsider that silly $30 membership and use some ways to bring in more people. I guarantee that $30 membership is a turnoff!!!

Hmmmm, I would think with that kind of money which is about $135,000 a year, you could afford a viper, vette or something along those lines, or if your still into trucks a full size souped to the max(aka lightning). The only reason I'm not a member is this seriously outdated & crappy message board software :( The info is worth the $30 but putting up with this interface is an automatic $20 turn off to me. So if I could have a membership for $10 then the whole package would be acceptable I guess

This site was one of the first and best sites for Dakota Owners and Enthusiasts. So much so --- that Mark has been contacted directly by Dodge on a couple of occassions. I know that there is at least one Dodge Dakota engineer that visits this site --- and he might even be a member.

Heh Heh Heh, It got a laugh out of me.
First, I don't ususally visit this site on the weekends. But since I will be out of the office most of this next week I visited the site today.
Second, I work with Mark (site owner)M-F, and my above post was factual and true. Plus, I have a Dodge Engineer as a customer, and he uses ALL Amsoil in his personal Dodge Dakota. He became my customer because he was a regular visitor to this site, and liked what I had to say.
Third, to answer your question ... things are very well. In the last three months Redline oil verified Amsoil's statements of 25,000 mile Extended Oil Drain Intervals, and Harley Davidson finally acknowledged that Synthetic Oil could be used (and should be used) in their motorcycles. They even sent a letter to Amsoil stating that the use of Amsoil products in their bikes did not void the warranty. Thank you HD !!!
Fourth, we only need to get everyone to respect this website and the fact that Mark allows anyone to post without becoming a $30 member. Yes, this site could use some improvements ... but it has served everyone well for years.

This site and many of you members and users have given me a perspective that I have not had before. I only recently (Monday, 6-9-03) found it and have enjoyed every moment spent here so far.
I am a Service Advisor at a Dodge, Chrysler & Jepp dealership. I make my living listening to people telling me about car problems and asking me for an oil & filter change.
P.S. I also own a Dodge Dakota and I love it.
