Subject: Error Code P 0456 IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I tried looking up this code over at www.obdii.com but had trouble accessing it. Can someone tell me what this code means? I wonder if it's similar to 0455 and having to do with the evaporator.
I have a 2002 Dakota Quad with Air Force One air intake and a Magnaflow exhaust.

Message: I had the check engine light come on and later that night I checked for codes and it was the same one. Did you notice anything weird about the way your truck was running? I didn't and I have checked everything and nothing short of a dianostic test will say if there is a problem. I called my dealership to set up a day and they didn't seem too concerned. I told them I even pulled the code and he treated me like I was an idioit and say that wasn't an "accurate" way of finding the codes, ok whatever. Anyway, I reset the computer after pulling the neg battery cable and it hasn't come back and the truck is completly fine.
E-mail me if you find out any more, or if you had a real problem.
Andrew

Message: Nick,
Theres a TSB for that code on 02 Dakotas, or it would be the seal on the gas cap (not tight or defective).

Message: Well, I decided to rip out my Air Force One intake kit and reinstall my stock air hat and filter box. I double checked all the clamps and then reset the PCM. It's running fine so far and there is no code. Hopefully it won't come back.
I am probably going to go with a different air intake anyway. Either a Volant or K&N Generation 2 kit.

Message: Nick,
Did the Error Code come back after taking off the aftermarket air intake? I have a homebrew on mine and I'm getting the 0456. I used to get 0442 sometimes with the gas cap but this one has been on for 2 weeks now. Dealer wasn't sure what it is but I'm getting it hooked up to the scanner tomorrow.

Message: This morning I noticed the MIL light on. So I checked on the message boards and did just like you guys said. I turned the key on-off-on-off-on and got a P-0456 error code on the odometer. I then disconnected the negative battery cable, rechecked my gas cap and turned the key to on for twenty or so seconds. When I reconnected negative battery cable and started the engine, all seemed normal and the light went out. This is a first at a about 12650 miles.
Thanks to all that have posted. I thought I was on a trip to the dealership.
