Message: First, A-518 cases havn't changed over the years. Second, New Venture, who used to be New Process makes the transfer case. They make the transfer case for Chevys and they make it for Fords and they make it for Ddoges too. The case on the transfer case probably has not changed either. Which brings us to the adapter, the part between the tranny and transfer case. This may be different, but between makes only (GM vs. Dodge). If a NV 231 came stock on trucks with V-8 automatic Dodges, then if you have the right adapter, it will bolt up. Of course then there is the problem of splines on the output shaft of the tranny and the input part of the tranfer case. Old Torqueflite 727 were a pain in the ass getting the right yoke for the output shaft. Went to the junkyard once and went thru 5 driveshafts before I found the right yoke for my 727. I hope its not the same for the A-518, but the point is, no one knows the splines on your tranny. Its up to you to count and match and go junkyarding if necessary.

Message: From what I gather, Dodge trucks came with either a NV 231 or a NV 241. There may be a difference on the side the front differential pumpkins are on the full size vs. the dakota. Again, look in the junkyard or a parking lot to find out. If there is a difference, then you know what to look for. Again, if 1)the splines match the transmission,
2)the tranny is a 4x4 model, NOT a 2 wheel drive model, and
3)the output shaft for the front wheels is on the corect side, the thing should bolt on.
But You need to provide a whole bunch more info for what you're asking. Like
1. side of output shaft on current trnsfer case
2. What vehicle this setup is going in
3. engine
This should be as simple as it gets. A Chiltons, or even better a factory service manual will help you greatly i think. Some dealerships are nice enough to let you browse thru different year service manuals and compare models thru the pictures and schematics in these manuals.

Message: corey, the tranfers are not noted to be weak,
these trucks come with 231s,or 231HD from 1988-1996, v6 or v8,after 96 i don,t know.
most of the time if theres tranfers problems its
to do with no or low oil in it.not to say other things don,t happen
