Subject: Truck Bed Shifted 1 in.
IP: Logged

Message:
I couldnt help but notice in my rear views that something looked a little odd about my truck bed. The next day I take a closer look with my friend and see that my bed has shifted clockwise an inch or two. On one side (passenger) the bed sticks out past the cab does! Has this happen to anybody else? Can I fix this by loosening and couple of bolts and trying to shift it back? Any help is appreciated!

Oh, 99 4x4 CC 5.2

Thanks again

Jason

that might be exaggerated a bit... there are 8 mounting bolts under the bed that mount it to the frame. When all 8 are on, they wont allow that much movement. If you need to re-align the bed, just loosen all 8 and move the bed where you want it... then tighten.

I could snap a photo for ya, it seriously sticks past the cab. But like you said, it should not allow much movement, but that was the first thing that I started noticing about a week ago when going down some of my dirt roads, was that the bed was moving a lot. Then just the other day is when I noticed my bed was shifted a couple inches. My friend and I are able to grab the bed and tug on it to move it.

Thanks man. Oh, how hard is it to get to those bolts, and can I just tighten them real good, or is there a specific torque spec?

Thanks

Jason

Well the bed lines up with the cab so any movement will make it go past the cab in either direction. The bed does "shake" when driving on bad roads or if you have a harse suspension during driving but thats actually the rear frame "shaking". The rear isnt boxed in like the front half of the frame (under the cab) so it does not have the strength.

The bolts are really not that hard to get to... just need a good breaking bar because they are on there tight! Just besure to leave them on but loose and move the bed accordingly until you got it in the place that you want... then tighten.
