Subject: Prepaid oil changes from dealer? IP: Logged
Message: Somewhere I read that, when you purchase your Dakota, you can also buy some sort of maintenance package... something like 20-25 oil changes (I *think*), at a cost of around $160. Whoever posted it said that DC is recommending that dealers sell it at cost. I did a search and couldn't find the post. I'm not even sure it was this board that I saw it on. Does anyone know anything about this?

Message: A couple of years ago I worked for Goodyear. We used to sell a pre paid oil change card. It was a good deal and it sounds like the one you are refering to is a good deal. The reason we offered it was to get people to return. I am sure that is what the dealer is looking for also. When you return they will pork you for all kinds of other repairs. Thats what we did at Goodyear. People would come in for a prepaid l-o-f and leave with a $600.00 brake job. We would go over every car with a fine tooth comb and usually find something wrong with every car. We would not sell them something they did not need, most cars are so badly maintained that the repairs really were needed.

Message: If you DAK owners would make the switch to AMSOIL you could forget about those frequent oil changes.
Pre-Paid oil changes ?? .... Why heck, some dealers are offering oil changes "Free For Life" to the original purchaser of the vehicle.
My question is ... Who wants that cheap oil that the dealership offers you?

Message: That's great that some dealers are offering free oil changes for life. But mine isn't one of them.
I called DC today and asked about this - it covers all of the cost of oil changes for the first 4 years/60,000 miles(or was it 75,000? I forget) at a cost of $180 (which is about half of what it would cost me if I paid the dealer directly). The only catch is that I can't purchase this service contract separately, it has to be an add-on to a purchased extended warranty (which I will not be buying).
BTW... if I switched to Amsoil and only change the oil at the really l-o-n-g intervals, wouldn't I be voiding the engine warranty by not performing scheduled maintenance at the recommended intervals? Wouldn't they use it as an excuse to get out of covering repairs and blame it on me for not performing regular maintenance?
