Subject: Difference in ring and pinion gears?
IP: Logged

Message:
Is there a difference between the ring and pinion gears on a 91-96 and a 97-02 model Dakotas? I know the width of the rearend is longer on the Gen 3's but is that the only difference? Could I used Gen 3 gears in a Gen 2 rearend?

Thanks
Dan

From my understanding you can use the ring and pinion from any chrysler product 4 and 2 wheel drive as long as they come from the same size axle. Whether that be 8.25, 9.25 etc. Gears can be altered from ram to dakota etc...LSD doesnt matter either since the components dont rely on special gears

I think teamfast is right but be careful if using parts from an older car 8.25 (in Volares, Aspens, and probably lots more) I heard there were some differences there.
