Subject: SLT/Sport model is there such a thing? IP: Logged
Message: I am considering purchasing a 1999 "SLT/Sport" extended cab 5.2 liter. The owner assures me that it is BOTH a Sport and SLT model. When I go to edmunds.com, I see that the equipment is almost identical for these two trim levels. The book value of a SLT is about $700 higher than a Sport, so it's difficult for me to determine the value of this truck.
Is there a way to tell if I should value this truck as a SLT or a Sport? Does the VIN have a flag which tells me for sure whether this truck is basically a Sport or a SLT? It's fully loaded with power windows, door locks, sliding rear window, overhead console, etc.

Message: Sport has paint matched bumpers and grille. The SLT has chromed bumpers and chromed grill and gray facia. The sport has a rear anti sway bar, the SLT does not. If you still an't tell, run the VIN.
It sounds like an SLT but I can't tell without a picture.

What do you think? Seems like a good price if it's a SLT, but not quite as good a deal if it's a Sport (looks like more of a Sport to me).

Message: It's a Sport. The "Sport" decal on the side is a dead give away. He's just trying to squeeze more money out of any potential buyer. There is no such thing as a Sport/SLT.

Message: Hey,
I have a pal with a Sport/SLT V8 EXT.
I just wrote about it in another thread.
We always wondered if there were others.

Message: Well, it's too late - I already bought the truck. I checked NADA and KBB value as a Sport, not a SLT, and I think I got a good deal. I'm fairly sure it's a Sport, as there are no "SLT" badges anywhere on the truck.
Is this truck considered to be a "half ton"? The following information is on the placard on the driver's door frame:
GVWR: 5600
GAWR Front: 3166
GAWR Rear: 3166
