I ordered my new Dakota about a month ago, and it's scheduled to ship this Friday. At the time, I thought I was getting a pretty good price on it (invoice minus $3000 rebate & 4.49%/60 months). BUT... according to cars.com, Dodge is now also offering a $3500 cash incentive on Dakotas to the dealer that expires 6-30-03 (this was not listed at the time I ordered it, or any other time that I checked - in fact, it's the first time I've seen any dealer incentive at all since I started checking several months ago). The dealership locked in my customer rebate and told me that if the incentives got any better, I would get the better deal. However, I'm sure they were referring to the customer incentives, which have never gone above $3000 anyway (they probably aren't expecting me to know about the dealer incentives, either).

So... I am planning on asking if they will also give or at least share the dealer incentive as well, but since the GM is a bit of a harda$$, first wanted to find out:

- $3000 customer rebate + $3500 dealer rebate seems excessive. Is DC really taking $6500 off, or could this be a mistake? I realize it's near the end of the model year, but, still...
- How do I find verify that this really is in effect, and also in my region, in case the dealership denies it? Will DC tell me if I call, or will they say they can't share that information? Info on customer incentives is everywhere, but info on dealer incentives is missing or difficult to find.
- Has anyone else had any luck getting the dealership to give away or share the dealer incentives, or is it considered sacred $$ by the dealer? It would make me sick if they turn me down and pocket an extra $3500 on this truck.

$6500 below invoice? That would be quite a steal!

I find it hard to believe they are that desperate to sell Dakotas.

I know one of my neighbors traded his new Dak in on a new Hemi Ram but that's still staying in the family.

"Factory to Dealer incentive"... Maye that would apply to vehicles sitting on the dealer's lot collecting dust - rather than specially ordered models...

Just my guess...

I am thinking that the dealer is getting the truck for $3500 below invoice and selling it for $3000 below, So at best you could get another $500 (not likely)... On my truck when it came in the invoice had gone up $500 and they didn't raise the price of the truck so effectively I got it for $3500 under invoice... My truck took 7 weeks to come in (very long 7 weeks I might add)... but so far so good... 3000 miles and no problems yet... well no real problems... good luck with the dealer...

I guess it is too late for you, but if you join the Farm Bureau they will give you a rebate for an additional $500 for a Dakota truck. You have to be a member for 30 days prior before qualifying for the rebate. It cost me $40 to join and saved me $500. Go to www.4adodge.com and see what your Dodge rebate in your area is. If it is more you will get the higher amount. I ordered mine for 2% under invoice, $3K rebate, and the $500 Farm Bureau rebate. Not too bad, in fact the final price was less than my '97 Dakota and I got the 5.9 liter in my new Dakota.

Ok, I just called DC Program Headquarters and was told that there IS a $3500 dealer incentive but it is for the 2002 models (they're still selling those?!?) I thought it sounded too good to be true...

Scott, I did check into the Farm Bureau rebate, but I ended up ordering the truck before I thought I would, and didn't think I'd have time to get my 30 days in (was told it would be about a 4-week turnaround). I also called the local bureau office and asked exactly what I needed to do to join - the receptionist told me I'd have to go there in person, fill out a form, and they'd ask me some questions. Well, that part about the questions scared me a little - also, they have odd hours, aren't that close, and I would have had to take time off from work to get there. So I decided not to do it.

I joined the farm bureau when I ordered my 03 two months ago. I didnt have to go to their office, my salesman just handed me a short form that asked for my name, address, birthday, stupid things like that. I wrote a check and he mailed it in. It was just about the simplest part of the oredering process.

my order into my dealer. All I have to show for it though is the receit I printed out. I haven't gotten anything from them yet. I hope the receit qualifies for the start of the 30 days!
