Subject: PIAA 9007 Headlamp - WATT questions.
IP: Logged

Message:
Im looking for some new headlamps, and I was browsing through prior posts, but couldn't find an answer to my thoughts. Piaa seems to make good headlamps, but what's the 55/65w-100/110w to give an example mean? Are they stating that a standard 9007 with 55/65w's is acctually 100/110w in their lamps? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks

Piaa 9007 Super White 55/65w=100/110w
Piaa 9007 Xtreme White 65/55w=120/110w

PIAA is attempting to tell you that thier 9007 bulb, which is a street legal 55w/65w, puts out "light" equal to a 100w/110w bulb. It is B.S. What they have done is change the temperature of the lamp from around 3200 kelvin to 3800 or 4000 kelvin depending on the particular bulb you are looking at. This gives you "whiter" light than the standard bulbs. They DO NOT put out MORE light, just different color. If you want to use a 9007 series bulb with more light ( footcandles, lumens etc.) then you need to increase the actual wattage consumption by the bulb. A true 80w/100w or 55w/100w as examples. I have just purchased (2) Hella 9007 55w/100w bulbs for my truck today but have not installed them. I bought them from Central 4 wheel in Kent Wa. for $5.81 ea. Note, true 55w/100w bulbs are marketed for "off road use" only. My thinking was the low beams are stock wattage and the high beams would not be seen by anyone as you are suppose to switch to lowbeams around other dirvers. This way I still get brighter light for backcountry.
