Subject: need help with rattle type sound IP: Logged
Message: Ok, my 01 4.7 dak started a couple weeks ago with this rattle or bearing type of sound. It sounds like its coming from the front of the motor, near the belt or alternator. I brought it to the dealer and first time they said they didnt hear anything other than my aftermarket air intake(figures), but I then spoke with the service manager and showed him and made him listen. It only happens once it is completely warmed up, and only with a little bit of gas.....in the 1000-2000 rpm range. Any higher or lower and it goes away. It is almost like something metal is jingling around, maybe it is a bearing? Any ideas of what I can go and change? They just replaced the fan clutch/hub(?), and the alternator today and said it was fixed, only for me to get home a little while ago and its still there. Any help is great. thanks.......chris

Message: You're right it is something metal jingling. It's your timing chain. The problem is probably not a bad chain, but rather the tensioner. You can do it yourself if you have any mechanical ability, but if it's under warranty, have your dealer check it out.
