Hi all, I have a 99 cc 5.2 4x4 Dakota that has 60,000 miles. I just brought it to a local tire shop to have an alignment done, well they said I needed lower ball joints and wanted $727.00 to do the work. They told me they could not find a MOOG replacement so they were going with Dodge, I told them to never mind. I just called a CarQuest by my house per reading this forum, they had them in stock for $70.00 each, how hard are they to change, they appear to be pressed in?
Can they come out with one of those fork tools or just beating the crap out of them with a BIGGER hammer?

No you are going to need to get a Ball joint press. You can rent them at auto zone (I've heard). I bought one for $30 at Harbor Freight, I also have a Durango that'll need changing soon... A "pickle fork" can help in removing the knuckle from the ball joint. You might want to consider changing the uppers to while you have the steering knuckle off anyway.

chisle off the rivets, and replace them with hardened steel hardware when you put the new ball joint in. I think you need 5/16"-18 nuts bolts and locks bout 1"long.
