 Subject: P0456-TSB-Medium Vacuum Leak

Hey guys, I keep getting code P0456. I checked all of my vacuum connections, including the canister underneath the truck, where the driver's seat is above. Can't find anything loose, reset the comp and it comes back. There is a TSB out for it, 18-016-02A, but I don't want to be death flashed at the dealer. I think the only way to fix it is to flash the PCM and I fear they will pull timing. Is there anyway I can fix this on my own or must I take it in? Any advice on this and avoiding the loss of power is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As mentioned above it could very well be your gas cap. If not take to the dealer where they can peroform a smoke test to determine where the gasoline fumes are coming from. Do a search on the code and you'll get plenty of info. Print up the info like I did and take it with you when you visit your friendly service writer so he won't blow smoke up you @$$.

Actually P0456 was the first code I had, fixed it by securing a vacuum hose under the cab. The new code is p0442, medium vacuum leak etc. Someone said check the solenoid behind the battery, looks fine to me. Any clue here? Only way to check gas cap is to buy a new one or take it in to the dealer. Main thing is I don't want them to mess with my computer.

GAS CAP!!! I just had mine replaced under warranty! The dealer had 20 in that week for defective gas caps! The new one is is slightly different.
