Subject: 4.7L 'Tune-up' IP: Logged
Message: I have 2000 Dakota with a 4.7L motor. I'm looking at doing some sort of 'tune-up' at 50,000 miles.
I am looking at changing the plugs to the Autolights 3923.
I would like to change out the O2 sensor, but where is it located?
Are there any other sensors that I am missing and where are they located?
I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of changing the thermostat to 180 degree.
Is there anything that I am missing for this 'tune-up'?
Thanks

Message: I too have a 2000 with 4.7 I am at 55,000 miles and I just did the plugs ( 5224 ), oil and filter, and cleaned the K&N air filter. My PCV valve was fine so I did not touch it. Next will be a radiator flush and new fluid and tire rotation. Transmission & transfer case fluid was changed earlier. The maintenance manual does not mention sensors as part of the routine maintenance. I did not touch any sensors nor the thermostat and she runs great

Message: I wouldn't touch the O2 sensor. You don't need to unless your check eng. light comes on and thats what saying is wrong. Just stick with the fluids, depending when they were all done, brake check, filter, pcv valve, etc and you should be fine.

Message: Where did you guys find a PCV? No parts store around me even has them listed (unless the '02 4.7L's don't have one...)

Message: SORRY SO LONG
I just changed the thermo this weekend... boy was that fun. (You don't need to take off the splash guard under the truck, just feel around for the bottom bolt, it's easy) I made quite the mess with the old AF though, guess I could have taken more precaution with that, but oh well it's done. While I was doing that I flushed the rad and used some cleaning stuff from Azone. That took forever to flush out all of the suds. But All in all it was pretty easy, just messy. The drain for the rad is a biotch. I did not purge the air out of the hose because I didn't have the right size allen wrench, but it seems to be running at 180 and working fine.
A while ago I changed the sparks to 3923's, and they seem to be working fine, except that I have heard people say that the 4.7's should use some other number??? Well whatever, these work great, but if there is another number that will work better, let me know! I cleaned out the K&N (here's a little something getto, but it works way better than I thought it would, so I'm going to keep it) I bought some 4" alum air duct from lowes and squashed it flat, cut it to about a foot long, and took out that plastic bend from the front of the air box, and the rubber piece from behind the grille. Stuck the flattened airduct through the hole beside the rad and bent it through and connected it to the air box. I then stuck my hand inside the airduct anf opened it up as far and wide as possible. There isn't a lot of room and you have to curve it through one of your AC pipes, but when you are finished, you should have ram air (more or less) I can take pics if you want them. And finally I cleaned out the TB and what I could reach inside the intake man. Tried to clean the two sens's (tps and whatever the other one is) but I think I messed the tps up, because every now and then she rev's up and down for no reason. Almost like it's switching gears from 4th to 3rd and back while I'm driving... and it has done it in park as well? She wasn't doing it at first, and then it was real bad for a while, but she hasn't done it in about 3 weeks now? If anyone has any input on that one I will listen wholeheartedly. again, sorry so long,S~
