Subject: Fluids IP: Logged
Message: I have a 4.7L Dakota with an automatic and I am comming up on 50,000 miles in my Dakota. I am looking at having the transmission fluid and rear end fluid changed.
I have seen a lot of chat about synthetics, Amisol, and Royal Purple.
Are these fluids duplicates of each other or what? What, if any, advantage is there to using one of these products? For those use do use them, would you use them again?
Thanks

Message: I have the 4.7 with auto and in my transmission I switched to Amsoil. I was able to notice an immediate difference. It shifted smoother. This difference did seem to eventually go away and then it felt like it did when new. The Amsoil is supposed to handle temperature extremes better, with a wider temp range spec than standard. My local dealer service manager indicated when he worked in N. Alaska Amsoil was all they put in the transmissions ( for whatever that may be worth). I would use the Amsoil again.
In my rear end I let the dealer use their standard stuff (which I think is synthetic) and add the friction modifier for my limited slip because I did not know enough about the Amsoil use with the limited slip.
