Subject: Flowmaster Delta 50

Hi, I am planning on purchasing a Flowmaster Delta50 series, and I've just got a couple questions. First, on my 97, what is the in/out configuration? Lying on my back under the truck it looks like offcenter in, center out. Its sorta hard to tell the muffler is slightly rounded, as opposed to completly oval. And second, there is a large piece of the clamp before the muffler that goes up to a hanger. do i have to order this special, or can it be reused
or what? any help would be appreciated

saul, it depends on where and what kind of cat-back you buy...if you buy a complete kit that comes specifically for your dakota then all the hangers and clamps will come in the kit but when you order it make sure you ask first...if you buy just the muffler then i don't think any of the hangers and clamps will come with it...and i'm not sure what configuration your dakota is...

Saul, I have a 2001 Flowmaster catalogue at home. I'll check it to night and post the part number for you. I have a single in dual out 50 series delta flow on mine and love it.

You may also want to look at Flowmaster's SUV Performance 50 Series muffler, two different techs recommended this for our DAKs -vs- the Delta Flow series...slightly larger for more flow equals better HP/TQ gains and 1/4 mile times (like I'm ever gonna go to the track, red light takeoffs, now thats a different story!)

For my 2001 4.7 DAK QC AWD, I'm getting a 2 1/2 inch center single inlet with two 2 1/4 outlets and will have a custom exhaust done, dumping into 3 inch chrome tips.

Call the tech line at Flowmaster and ask them what muffler gives the best gains for your application.

They also said the SUV Performance 50 Series isn't much louder (if at all) -vs- the Delta Flow 50 series, in the cab (important for me, this is my daily driver/family hauler)

BTW, I've read about 4-5 posts about the Gibson systems and their new owners commenting on the fact that they weren't as loud or good enough sounding as they hoped, bet ya won't hear that about the SUV Peformance 50 Series.

I put a Delta Flow 50 on my truck last week... PN 942552. They said it was a direct fit.... NOT! I had to weld an extension pipe of about 4" to the tailpile to reach the muffler(alluminumized welding is a bitch). I cut the hanger from the stock muffler and welded it to the Flowmaster and poof, your done. About 1 hour with a lift and the right tools, I could'nt tell you how long on your back in your driveway (don't do it!)

2.5 pipes, centered inlet - offset outlet, case size 4"x9.75, 17"long body / 23"overall

And they also say that the SUV-Performance / 50 Series (PN 52557)(no dimentions given) is a direct fit, but I don't believe it.

Accorning to the 2001 flowmaster catalog the single in single out 50 series Delta flow for 97-99 Dakotas is 942552. Center in offset out. They also have a complete Force II exhaust sytem that exits in the stock location, # 17173. Their phone number is 800-544-4761.

Just for info I have a single in dual out, # 9425502. Had it ordered and installed by a local shop that has done my 2 previous F150's.
