Message: im helping my dad build a 2.5 garage on his property. still havent started, but we are considering either paying this company 9-11k for all the materials and putting this loft garage (has upper story) together ourselfs or buying the materials ourselfs and doing the hard job and measuring and planning out all the materials needed where the 9-11k will take care of that. anybody tackle building their own garage? also, anybody put in a hydrualic lift or a cheaper lift?

Message: I had a company put up a 30x40 2 story pole barn in my yard. $20,000 with cement floor and electrical. If you get a steel building, put a wood roof with shingles on it. The metal roofs leak like a skreen.

Message: You can build it yourselves but Check the laws. you should be able to get a builder owner builder lic. from the city/county.
The tooughest part is gonna be pouring the foundation. youll need a few people cause mixer guys wanna dump and go. framing is nto too hard but its best to have it all planned out so you dont go into cost overruns.
if you can get it done for 9-11k I would do that. but get a licensed contractor and make sure you dotn pay more than 10% or 1000$ whichever is less. also when you pay pay the guy as the work is being done. it shoud all be in the proposal this way both parties know whats happening. also make sure he has a bond. not jsut a liability bond but a performance bond. what that does is assures you that if he bails on the job yiou can call the bonding co. and they will pay to have the job finished and will go after the contractor to get their $$

Message: I'd sublet the foundation/floor cement work. The building itself shouldn't be that difficult...just takes time and labor. Plan on a high ceiling height if you want a lift.
