 Subject: 3 ways '00 Dak is better than '02

I'll admit these are nitpicky but nevertheless, they are changes for the worse...
1. My 2000 dak had 2 power outlets in the dash. My 2002 has only one. Lame.
2. The cup holder in the 2000 that pulls out from under the seat is 10X better the the usless one in my 2002 that's on the hump on the floor (i went over this in detail in the DAMN CUPHOLDER thread).
3. The freakin glovebox in the '02...it doesn't close tight. The side closest to the passenger door sags making it look chinsy. The gap starts off on the left at about 1/4 inch and by the time you get to the other end it's about 3/4 of an inch. (Does anyone know how to fix this?)
Other than those minor annoyances I love my new Dak. Just wanted to vent. Anyone have anything to add to the list?

Hey, I'll take these one at a time...
1. Unless I'm mistaken, and I could be, this
can be easily remedied for a few bucks with a
splitter. Did your '00 have an outlet in the
console as well? Because I find that two in the
front is plenty.
2. Front seat??? I love the cupholders on the
'02 and '03. I love the whole console in fact.
The only thing I wish it had that was
eliminated, is the light inside the console.
3. Never noticed a gap on either my '02 or '03!
Maybe it just doesn't bug me as much ; )
I'll add one though: 4. no underhood
insulation!!! I have bought it from Wyckoff for
both my '02 and '03 trucks... It doesn't come
standard anymore. I don't know if it was on
your '00 ... It was on my '96, not on the other
two... That bugged me. But, for $80 or
something ridiculous, I got new insulation and
the pins required to install it.
All in all, your list is pretty small. ; )
There's definitely some getting-used-to stuff
with these trucks... If you are "lucky" enough to
have the package that includes the auto-dim
mirror, you'll know that it takes a lot of getting
used to! That's one of my minor quibbles with
it.

Also. They eliminated the extened cab door opening. THAT SUX. I mean Dodge was the one who invented it. And the stinge out on the 01-02. Thats an important thing. I have a 2002. But it is my first one, so i can't compare it to another dodge. So far all i got is the mbrp exhaust. Runs great, except for the every now and then stall from drive to reverse.

Exteneded cab door opening? you mean a third door? Dakota never had one of these unfortunately...
And I agree the interior of my old 2000 is far superior to the interior of my 2003...

The style of the '00 interiors blows the '02's away.
If I had to do it over, I would've gotten a used '00 R/T instead of my '02 Sport.
'02 Sport 4.7 auto, Gibson exhaust, homebrew K&N cold air, 275/60 BFG Radial T/A's, Infinity CD w/Pioneer & Infinity spkrs & Kenwood powered sub.

I agree that the interior on the my 2000 dakota is much nicer and better laid out than the 2001 and up models. Also, The dakota's Club Cabs NEVER had any 3rd or 4th doors - I sure wish they did. Extra doors on the Club Cabs are numero uno on my Dakota Wish list (and don't say get a Quad Cab becuase I need the extra space in the bed !!!).

I have an 02 quad cab and this is my first but i noticed the sagging glove box also. Mine also stalls from reverse to forward.While on talk of cheap how about the cheap black painted rear bumper.The sticker was 24500$ just because i got the two tone paint i got the cheap bumper you would think they could throw in a chrome bumper.AS for outlet i only use one i hardwired my radar dect to the fuse box.Another thing is why dont they print what the fuses are for in the book instead of giving generic ones on the fuse cover.I dont think that each fuse only handles one thing. I dont even have heated mirrors or the radio amp but yet there are fuses in the slots. And for the hood insulation why cant they just put that on and why their at it how about a light under the hood even my 14000 escort had the insulation and a light. I know you can ad them but come on cheap is cheap.

Wife and I own a 00 CC and a 03 Durango.
The 00 interior is far better laid out that the 03, I like the 03 center console but agree that the cop holders suck. Only 1 power outlet in front of 03 Durango but I think there is one inside the console.
No insulation under the 03 Durango hood but there is on my 00 CC.
My 00 4.7L CC (80k miles) EATS her 03 4.7L Durango (224 miles) from light to light, I pull away from her very fast at 50 mph and laying into the gas pedal on both at same time yet both are 3.92 geared 4.7Ls. Can someone explain that to me?

A splitter isn't really an option due to the location of the outlet. It's directly above the console thing/cupholders that are on the hump on the floor. I just end up unplugging my radar detector when i need to charge my phone. I'd rather do that then have a splitter hanging out of there.

Maybe we have a differnt console. I have the 40/20/40 bench seat. There's no light or outlet in the console.

Yeah, we have different consoles. Yours flips
down and mine is stationary... I have front
bucket seats. I like the cupholders in the back
seat though, they slide out from the 60 seat in
my Quad Cab.

What does the under hood insulation do
anyway?
Makes the engine even quieter, making for a
nice smooth ride. ; ) (For those of us that don't
prefer loud trucks only)

Yeah, there's a lot of little things I've noticed
too. Overall I love the ergonomics of my trucks.
Even the '96 rode great. The '03 rides better
than my '02 did. One more small thing they
changed from the two model years: When you
engage Cruise control, the light comes on in
the instrument cluster, right? Well in the '02
the "CRUISE" light was amber; In the '03 it's
green like the odometer. Probably saved a
total of 5 cents per 1,000.

i have a 97 5.2 reg cab, when did they change the dash design, was it in 01'? i love how my dash flows and has round corners and a roundish glove box, also my interior was alot easier to paint b/c it was so simply, i dont think i would try to paint an interior of a newer dak if i had one,.

Well I take delivery of my 2003 CC R/T tomorrow!
Saw it on Wednesday when it arrived into the dealer and it looks sweet.
I'll take the 03 model over the 02 and down for a couple of reasons...
Like 4 wheel disk brakes...
Also prefer the Chrome rims to the silver painted ones in previous years, same rim but prefer the chrome look.
Also really like the "stampede" ground effects that is now also standard on the 03's that were produced from Jan 3rd forward.
Anyways can't wait to pick it up!

Wow, oh well,
on my 01 Quad, SLT,
The power oulet is higher amp, and works independent of the key, it's always on-
It comes with the "Trailer towing/HD Service group" on my 01. The one for the lighter is there also. Kinda nice, you can charge your cell phone, Etc. with the truck off, and the beefier battery never has a problem with it.
With a 5spd, you only have one front cup holder anyway.
My 01, SLT, also came with the under hood insulation-with the Ram head on it.
It's got 4 doors too-LOL
