I have a 2000 RC 3.9 Dakota that I have to get the heater core replaced on(steam coming from dash vents, and only 50K miles on the truck)usually I would buy the factory core because of getting a better quality product, but in this case because so many of us are having the same problem do you guys think I should buy aftermarket? and if so what brand is the best to your knowledge? Thanks for any info

Same area...different core. I just replaced the Evaporator core on my 2000 CC. Same pain int he butt job to get to same place where cores are contained. After talking to local Dodge parts dept. and hearing that it wasn't a bad Evap core in the first place but rather a somewhat corrosive AC oil that caused my problem, I went ahead and went with an OEM replacement. In your case, its could be either a bum EOM core or a coolant issue. I inspected my heater core while changing Evap cores and it looked fine but I rinsed it out anyway just in case. I guess I would go with the best deal I could get if I was replacing the heater core...but thats just me.
