Subject: Mopar valve covers

Spoke with guy from Jegs and he said that that the MP valve covers (both wrinkle black and polished) have been discontinued. That doesnt make any sense. They seem to be a popular item. Then I spoke with the parts guy at the local Dodge dealer. He said he can get them at $182 EACH! That doesn't make any sense either. They averaged around that for the pair. Any insights on this? Thanks.

Sam,

I recently got the Mopar covers and they tend to leak a little from the four top openings(pvc, oil cap, etc). The leakage is small, but it's annoying and messy. Any suggestions? I've checked everything for tightness but it seems that the caps don't tighten enough.

Eli, you must use the baffles on all the holes, and make sure the rubber grommets fit snugly. I don't have a bafle under filler cap, but I did double up the seal on the cap itself. My valve covers came with two oil caps, so I took the seal off one and put it on the other, and then bought a chrome capped valve cover plug from Pep Boys for the other side. I also have RTV sealing the back to jst to be safe, but was sealing fine before the RTV.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Jeremy, you said you paid $170 for the pair at your dealer. That makes more sense than for only one. Sam, went to your link and submitted info request. Also, anyone know where I can get the chrome necks for the breather? Thanks.

Mopar covers have gone up and down in price like the tide lately--

Some places that have LOW prices either mess up, and sell at the low price when they in fact had changed (good for the guy buying at the time), but a lot of times they catch it and you end up paying the higher price.

I have tried to offer them at a reasonable price, yet stay with the current pricing-- If the price drops, I will drop my price accordingly.

I am now only selling the covers WITH the additional baffles--- Helps keep them from leaking, and the additional cost is nil.

I have a set of MOPAR valve covers and have a lak on the drivers side torwards the back of the engine. I tightened the bolts some but it still seemed to be leaking. I am not sure since I shipped it soon after trying to fix it.

Did any of you have a crank case breather/filter? The reason I ask is that the service manual says that it is no longer used. I could not fit the stock one back on so I took it off but then got nervous and bought a crome one. It does not vent to the air cleaner like the stock one though.

You need the breather to go to the TB-- it helps keep the oil pressure out of the top end (vaccuum from intake draws in the gases, etc.)

Do you need just the OEM passenger side grommet?

I still have the OEM gromet. The problem was that the stock breather was hitting the brake booster and I was not able to force it in all the way. The breather I got just vents to the engine bay. I thought about moving it to the front but that of the valve cover but that would not work because the front is for a cap, the breather I bought screws in to the front. I installed a gromet plug in the back. I do not have my truck here so I can't take a picture but I do have one I took before I shipped it. I will send you a picture.
