Subject: DAMN CUP HOLDERS!!!! IP: Logged
Message: ok, is anyone here with the 40/20/40 bench seats as pissed off as i am abotu the cup holders in our daks. Thwese damn things won't hold anything, sometimes even 12 oz. soda cans will fall out of them. If it weren't for the rubber floor mats i would have more depreciation in soda and coffee stains than i do on the rest of the truck. What were they smoking when they designed those frikin' things?!?!

Message: Not supposed to have your nose poked in coffee when you're driving anyway. Worse than yakking on cell phones. Cup holders are for fags.

Message: What ever wop...
Im with mad cowl, they are too small for alot of things, and too big for a few things. Ive thought about taking the pull tray, where my cup holders are in my 1990 CC, and fabing up a new plate that holds 1 drink, 1 big drink!!! Maybe in my spare time.
Later.

Message: i have a 2002 cc 5-speed with the bucket seats. if you have a McDonald's large soda in the cup holder behind the shifter, when you shift to fourth it hits the top of the cup, popping the top off and spilling soda all over.

Message: you got that right junior, i have a 44 oz thurstbuster. When i shift to fourth it doesn't pop the lid off, but it bends teh straw so hard that is puts cracks in trhe straw making hard to suck soda up. I usually try to put drinks in the right holder, but then thats when it falls into the passenger side where i can't pick it up right away.

Message: Yeah, With the manual shifting can be a problem, especially with the super-sized cup. And with mine latly the springs that allow them to close and open have died on me so I can't get any force put on my cups or cans I put there. I'll have to do some afro-american engineering to get it to work.

Message: Well this is what I do. i pull out the cup holder till it gets tight. Now The little swing arms are really tight and harder to move so I just ratche3t them in or out to fit the drink.
Works pretty good.
If you dont pull the holder out as much as possible the little arms dont get tight
Worked for me and I dont spill drinks this way. But mine was replaced once cause my wife took my truck to work one day and decided to fit her big coffee cup in the holder. Instead of telling me she broke it she just closed the holder. the little swing arm was hanging by literally its skin. I go in the next day open the holder and put my hot coffee in there and go to back up.
spilled coffee everywhere and the little arm broke.
I was gonna fix it but a new one from the dealer is 20$

Message: Hey guys try this. Pull the cup holder completly out, put your drink in it, close the clicking arm thingys, then push the complete holder back twords the bed untill it holds the can/cup pretty tight. I had a 97 that i always did this. No spills or stains.
Just my 2 cents thou

Message: No kidding! The cup holder on my 2002QC SUCKS! (The kind that's down on the hump thing in the middle.) It's jammed so far up under the dash that i can barely reach it. And if there's anything at all plugged into the power outlet the cup holder closest to the driver is completely unusable. The power outlet is directly above it. Not to mention the damn thing isn't deep enough. When you go around a corner a cup of soda won't completely fall out but it usually tips up sideways and spills.
I miss the old holder that was in my 2000. The kind that holds 2 drinks and pulls out from under the seat.
When i first got my new truck i was so pissed that i actually started calling around to some junk yards to see if I could swap for an old style seat with the cup holder.
And while i'm ranting... Why the hell doesn't my 2002 Dak have two power outlet things? My 2000 had two of them. My 2002 has one. ERRR.

Message: I have the same complaints about the cup holders in my 2003 QC 5-speed. The one is to far away, and the other one at the base of the console is in the way of the shifter if you put anything in it.
My 2003 has two power outlets. One on the dash and one inside the console. I guess you need the bucket seat option to get two of them.

Or the Gen 4's any better?

Message: I went and got a front seat out of a 2000 Dakota
for my 2002 Dakota. Now, I have the cup holder in
the seat and got rid of the whole console that
came with the 2002. The cup holder in the seat is
a much better design. and the flip down console is
much more comfortable. The seats change out with
no modification.

Message: I have a 1998 Dakota with the drink holder in the middle of the front seat. Arms that hold the cup just flopped around at will. To remedy I removed the screws holding the bottom plastic plate and front trim. Picked up small springs from the hardware store. Drilled a hole in the bottom swing portion of the holder and the back of the bottom plate that I removed. Put it all together and when the beverage container is in the holder the spring holds the container tight.
