Subject: t-case leak IP: Logged
Message: While under my 93 4x4 dakota w/318, I noticed I have a small leak where the drive shaft goes into the t-case. There is some fresh fluid around the area and I can see where there has been some fluid thrown around the area where the shaft meets the the t-case. Also, there is about 1/8" of "clean" drive shatf exposed out of the t-case. by clean, I mean it is shiny like all the grease and dirt and gunk has been cleaned off. Is this normal?

I think the shiney steel is from the drive shaft going in and out as your rear suspention compresses. (NOT SURE) But if you are getting a leak (THAT IS NOT GOOD) THat could be a bearing or oil seal. Not to expencive to buy the parts but a lot of money to have changed. Just remember to use mopar tranny fluid and nothing else. because mopar trannys have special clutches in them that need the additives that are only in mopar ATF III

Message: Thanks. Now that I know that I feel like a dumb ass. Last October when I got my dak, I filled the t-case with Valvoline Durablend. As soon as the auto store gets some Valvoline for mopars, I will drain and refill. Could I have done any damage by using the wrong fluid already?
