Subject: v-8,water pump,elec. fan?

We just completed an engine swap in a 91 dak.We used a pre-mag 318"88 fifth ave.".Bored it .40" over and put a 360 throttle body and intake on it and so far have been very pleased with how it turned out.A problem we had was with the clutch fan. There wasn't enough room to put one back on so we put a flex fan on it with a one inch spacer. We had to use the spacer to clear the pulleys but there is less than an inch clearance between the fan and the radiator. No big problem, but I now want to put an electric fan on it and I don't have the room.I see that the black magic 150 is over 4 inch's deep and I just don't have that much room.I read one time that on pre 90 dak engine swaps with 318 that pre 71 water pumps should be used so I checked on a 70 charger water pump at the parts store and it was identical to the pump currently on my 318.My long winded question is,Do i need to check for another year waterpump? And if the pump is a lower profile than other years how do you keep the grooves on the pulleys aligned with the other pulleys?

If I remember correctly on the shelby daks (91's included) they used an electric fan mounted in front of the radiator to cool the beast. Hav eyou looked into this?

I am confused? You put a flex fan on ........now you want to replace it with an electric? Or do you want to put an electric on the front side?

The best flex fans for the bang are the Derale heavy duty fan series #17XXX available for information at http://www.derale.com/hdflexfans.shtml . They are the best air movers.....will outperform you stock fan by a long shot and not take up loads of hp doing it. I run them on my muscle cars and streetrods all the time. Oh yeah......won't come apart either like most flex fans. You can purchase from Summit Racing for around $50 depending on size and finish.

If you are looking for a high quality electric fan......how much room do you have? The Spal electrics come in a variety of diameters with their 16" the best. It produces over 2200cfm of airflow....plenty for your ride and are only 3.4" deep! No shroud is required and can be mounted directly to the radiator. You can get at www.streetrodstuff.com/Products if you decide to go that way! Don't forget the relays to go with and temperature sensor to turn them on.
