I have a jeep cherokee and would like to trade for a 8 cyl Dakota but would like to know if it can pull a 4000 lb travel trailer through hilly areas. Or should i upgrade even more to a Ram?

if you get a v8 it will easily pull that.
Go to www.dodge.com and they have a towing guide which will tell you what each dakota model is rated at.

Easily... I had over 2000# in the bed this weekend with no problems at all.... Just get the v8 and 3.92 gears.
