Subject: MSD 6A IGNITION IP: Logged
Message: Hi, i have a 1992 dakota LE 318ci. I have purchased the MSD 6A ignition and am curious whether anyone has installed this or heard of anyone who has installed this ignition into their truck. Im trying to find the best place to mount the ignition box. I currently see no other option than to mount it on the driver side wheel well, if anyone has any suggestion please post them.

Message: I have a 6AL on my 94' and it has given me mo problems. I experienced a slight MPG increase and Marty over at KRC said it would help when trying to pass emissions. I made a bracket for mine so that I could mount it up off og the drivers side wheel well. The box has lived there for almost 4 years with no problems.

Message: I guess the driver side wheel well is the way to go. The only thing i was concerned about was the excessive amount of heat produced by the headers, possibly damaging the unit. Another thing when purchasing the ignition was the decision towards the 6A or 6AL. I went with the 6A in the presumption that haveing the rev limiter with the 6AL would have some conflict with the PCM. I figured the 6AL would be more for carborated vehicles without a PCM.

Message: Oh, i should have mentioned that I once saw a dakota at a car show that had a different set up. A wedge shaped bracket was made, it was taken from a long piece of steel bent on half and with ears bent at the ends for mounting. The engine controler was mounted on one side and the ignition on the other side. It looked very nice and now the bracket was small enough to mount where the stock computer had been.
