Subject: No Fuel Pump Output
IP: Logged

Message:
I suspect a bad fuel pump, as I get NO significant fuel flow when I disconnected the fuel line at the filter and cranked the engine. (I also don't hear the pump running when I turn the key on.) I swapped the relay with one of it's neighbors that I knew was functioning properly - still no fuel flow.

Before going to the hassle of dropping the tank and plunking ~ $175 down on a new pump, I want to make sure the problem isn't related to the electrical supply to the pump.

Is it possible to access the elect power wire at the top of the tank and check for power? Also, my Haynes schematic shows basically a straight run from the relay to the pump, or are there other component(s) mid stream that could be interrupting the elec power to the pump.

Also, does anyone have any reasonable sources for fuel pumps. I can't believe the price of these things. I can buy one for my Volvo for less money than the Dakota.

Thanks for any insight into my problem.

has the pump gotten louder recently (sign of it going usually)?

Is the fuse OK? the relay is switching (you should be able to feel / hear it?
