I've done all the searches, after I found the water under the carpet of my 01 Quad Cab, not fluids from the truck.

It seems to be 1 of at least 4 positively the cause places.

My truck is at the dealer now for it-warranty.
I showed them this website, etc., the now say, as has been posted by a few, that it's the gasket where the condensation drain tube sticks thru the firewall!

When I get it back, I'm still going to extend the tube with a 90degree elbow, to help solve the problem.

Not sure about 01 but on my 02 there is no gasket, the tube just sticks thru the firewall, after several repair attempts and carpet replacements they finally sealed the area around the drain tube with silicone and since then no more wet carpet...I know I should of not said that because as soon as I think this wet carpet problem is repaired, well you know the rest.

Can someone please explain where the
evaporator drain is on an '02?

Is it behind what looks like a sheetmetal
shield on the passenger side firewall?

Can you see it from the top or do you need to
crawl underneath the truck?

Thanks,
Lemmers

Lem,

I see it better from the bottom, careful though, don't get burned-duh.

I can see it from the top too.

Lower firewall, mid truck, on the passenger side. It's about a 1/2 inch hose that sticks out toward the engine about a 1/4 inch. It's horizintal. Doesn't stick out much, so it's easy to miss.

In all the research I did here on this site, I think I'll put an elbow on the end, so it drips past the hole for the tube.

On my 2002 3.9, the AC drain tube comes through the firewall right behind the right valve cover/tranny dipstick tube. It's only about an inch long, and there's a sheetmetal diverter for the water in front of it, almost touches the end of the tube, so it's hard to see...you may need some extra light to get a good look at it.

In our '98 , with 5.2, its directly behind the Auto-tranny dip stick behind the passenger side valve cover/head. Very tight fit and hard to see. I removed the cruise control and can see and reach it from above. From below it is fairly visible but hard to reach.

The drian is a plastic tube sticks through the firewall abut 3/4", I took a 3/4" PVC sched 40 90 degree elbow, (which fits loosly), on with silicone.
There is a rubber seal $1.94 cost for this part that fits tightly around the tube and on the firewall opening. This seal hardens and cracks. Estimate from dealer is 6 to 8 hours labor @ $80.00 per hour to replace. I used a lot of silicone and sealed it up.

I have since found a Chrysler/Dodge Part: Cowl, Drain Hose = 5264688

I had a similiar thing happen to my 2000 3.9L CC, 2 months after purchase. Mine was drivers side, though.

Turned out to be the windshield leaked in the top DS corner. Dealer eventually had to replace it.

I diagnosed the leak myself with a waterhose and some patience, then proved it to the dealer so they would correct it!

Oh, they couldn't just reseal it, they had to replace it. To top it off, the tech said the Dakota glass almost always breaks, so you'll need a replacement glass on hand.

If that does not fix your problem with the wet floorboard, then do the water hose test. Run water on the outter part of the truck with the carpet pulled up.

My passenger floorboard fills up everytime it rains, I have for the most part given up on finding my leak too. I damn near taped up the whole passenger side of my truck and it still filled up next time it rained.

I am about to pull the carpet and heavily undercoat the whole inside of my floorboard and up 6-8 inches on the sides and inner firewall. Lets see the water come through then. I plan to trade my 00 CC in within the next year or so anyway.

Have water on my passagner side floor board, 2004 Dodge
Dakota Quad cab 4.7 engine. Pull your carpet up and the
black rubber aganist the fire wall, right where you drain go
through the fire wall under it, let your engine runwith the air
condition on high and watch, I could see water running from
there down to the carpet.
