Subject: How to determine fair price on used dak. IP: Logged
Message: How do you determine the max price you will pay for a used truck from a used car dealer?
Online, I've got KBB, Black Book, NADA, and Edmunds. Edmunds gives the lowest values, as they say it reflects what people are actually paying, and not what dealers are listing at which is what KBB does. NADA is used for insurance payouts.
specifically this is relates to a 1997 V8 4x4 Ext cab, 95k miles on it. Lots of extras, above average to clean condition.

See what the asking price for similar year/models in your area. It's a good deal if you think it is, who cares if you paid too much or too little?! Are YOU happy with it? That's all that matters!!

Message: At the dealer they have a price list that says how far they're allowed to go moneywise. I have no clue how u might get a hold of it, but it might be good use if u could find one.
But about the max price, what you've described sounds like a good truck so spend what you think is right.

Message: I went buy edmunds to get my 01 DAK I was looking for a Quad cab and they are not easy to find with a 5 speed manual in my area so I ended up paying $600 over edmunds value.

Message: The same places you cited are where I start. Then start shopping, autotrader.com, auto/truck-trader hard copy, the local newspaper. The stealers are always gonna ask list, not true market value as a starting point, and offer you rough wholesale for your trade in if ya got one.
After that, I signed up for carfax unlimited 30 day package, and ran the vin on every Dak we found that looked reasonable. I was a little dissapointed with the carfax, you do get basic info about each time the title actually transferred ownership, but make you wonder how many times the vehicle changed hands and the title was not actually documented. It did save my ass from making an offer on a nice Dak, looked great, priced right, right equipment, but somewhere between florida, texas, tennesee, and back to florida in less than a year there was a front end accident reported.
I looked at every Dak within 200 miles. Make up your mind what you can afford to pay and when you find one you really like be prepared to make a reasonable offer.

Message: The benefit right now is that new cars are selling better than used because of the rates and incentives out there... I got 3k off my new dak plus 4.29%.... that is like 0% and a few hundres under invoice... so all of this is driving down the rates on used vehicles and also driving down thier pricing... I have seen used pricing as low as 4.99% for up to 6 years locally... that is amazing... just check it from one end to the other looking for signs of repain, wiring that has been hacked etc...
