Subject: Replacement Brake Parts

It's time to do a brake job on my 01CC and I think I'll just replace the stock warped rotors instead of machining them. The shops in town all sell either Raybestos or Wagner or cheap Chinese parts. I'd like good quality parts (the OEM pieces warped so I think I'll avaoid them ;)) so can yall chime in and give me your experiences and opinions pro or con.

Before anyone says it, I won't order the power slots or SS brakes. I have a mortgage, 2 vehicles and a daughter in university to pay for :o()

Thanks.

Many of the parts on our trucks are made by Dana Corporation which in turn makes Raybestos brake parts. I would guess that the oem parts would be almost identical to the aftermarket parts. I may be wrong and if I am I'm sure I'll be corrected very quickly.

FWIW I have used the aftermarket Raybestos rotors and have not had any problems. I'm sure the Wagners are just as good. Steer clear of the cheap Chinese "store brands". Don't be afraid to ask where the parts are made. I believe Napa are Raybestos rotors, not sure about the pads.

Break them in gently, excessive heat is bad and will warp the rotors, as will improperly torqued lug nuts. I torque mine in two steps to 100ft/lbs in a criss cross pattern.

BTW, I never experienced warped rotors until I had a vehicle with 6 lug nuts. Never with 5 or 4. Just something funny I noticed.

I have a 2000 CC with the tire and handling package and had the stock rotors turned and replaced twice within 36000 miles. I finally upgraded the rotor and went with ceramic pads. No problem since, 78000+. The stock rotors and pads just not made for this truck with a little extra rubber.

kavemankev, do you mind saying what rotors you ended up buying and how much they cost you?

I'm looking at some slotted rotors at TireRack - they go for between $230-260 pr. depending on brand, but I figure it's worth it not to have to put up with warped rotor syndrome anymore. And why did you decide on ceramic pads?

Thanks for the info!

Check out the group buy section on the Powerslots or Irotors. Ryan in there will make a fairly decent price on the powerslots....

sorry for the delay sooner, the whole package was a little over $400 bucks, I would have to dig out the brand from the paper work. As far as ceramic pads, I was just sold on the fact that they would be a better match for the rotors, and would reduce brake dust,(some). I was at the point where I just wanted some brakes that would last.
