Subject: got rid of 3923 plugs IP: Logged
Message: got rid of the autolight 3923 plugs. Put in specified autolight 5224 platinum.
Gas mileage went up by 2 MPG and the engine doesn't die when I put in park, it used to die sometimes. It's got pick up and idles nice.
IMO the 3923 ain't that great IMO

Message: Interesting. I guess Harlow is cool, since it's still the ex-Ford brand. I didn't feel like a hassle the first plug change on my '01 4.7, so I went with the OEM Champions. Smooth sailing so far at 47K. I used Bosch platinums virtually the entire life of my '92 5.2, 217K mi.,always ran great. Anyone tried Bosch +2 or +4 in their 4.7? Hey, D-C is German, too. Good matchup?

Message: Don't think it's really a myth that the 3923's give better performance. I've talked to a few people who get better performance in their 3.9L Dakotas, but most with the 4.7L say they work okay (just like Demon Dakota).
In the 3.9L, the 3923s are a lower temperature plug. For the same effect in a 4.7L, try 5223.
I have 5224 platinum in mine. Original spark plugs were almost completely finished at 30k miles when I had them replaced.

Message: It might be that lower temp thermostat and lower temp plugs = engine runs colder so PCM gives more gas = better low end acceleration, which is what the kids want.

Message: Actually, the colder plugs made the pinging stop in my 3.9. I tried the stock equivalents, then I tried platinum, then I went to the 3923 and the ping went away.

Message: the 3923 are only for the 3.9/5.2/5.9 engines. the 4.7 typically does not benefit from them. I tried them and liked them once but every 8k I had to re-gap them... then went to Bosch +4's and they worked great for 45k miles...
