Subject: Creaking noise in front
IP: Logged

Message:
My 2K 4x4 RC with only 26,500 miles but a couple weeks out of warranty just started making a creaking noise in the front when turning the wheel. More so to the right, but also to the left. Seems like sound is coming from steering column. Steering still feels good, any suggestions ?

the 99 rams had the same problem. i think it was something with the dash and A-pillar . there wasnt enough body sealer to stop the leak. do a tsb search for recalls and manufacturing defects.

Check the rubber boots on the steering arm,I had the same problem and found out the boot ripped. Then also around the same time I had to get my steering rack replaced because it felt wierd and made noises.

Thanks guys. Rubber boots are all good. I think sound is from underneath and was transmitted through column. Stopped doing it for about 40 miles and then started again half a mile from home; noticed it makes the noise on bumps with no steering input also. I wonder if its the first sign the ball joints are going ?

I had the same prob w/my 2000 quadcab 4wd. It would make a creaking noise in the front everytime I would hit a bump. The problem is the bushings are worn on the front A-arms, I sprayed some lube on them and the noise went away. I know it's probably just a temp. fix until I can get them replaced.

PAdak - What kind of lube did you use? WD-40? Any chance it would eat away at the bushings?
