Subject: aftermarket mod sites, who's the best? IP: Logged
Message: As far as ease of navigation and overall experience goes which sites stand out to you guys? I'm not necessarily speaking of customer service, reputation, etc.. I'm talking about core navigation. Which site(s) are you confident that you can get in, grab what you need, checkout, and be done w/ it quickly? Do you find the “search by vehicle” navigation where you use drop-downs (example, over on the right) to pick year/make/model of your truck and the site displays options based on your selection. Or do you like a more broad “Select Category”
style (example),where you select engine, suspension, air management, electrical etc..? A keyword search is pretty much a given, any robust site needs that but I’m trying to figure out if people would rather search by product categories or by pre-existing chunks of parts for your truck. I personally like a category style. I’ve found a few times the select your vehicle style to be very limiting. What’s your opinion? Thanks for the feedback everyone! -m

Message: As far as navigation goes: I'd say truckperformance.com is the best. They also have a pretty good selection on bolt ons. Summit is also pretty good. Summit has better prices but not as goos of selection. Some of the more specialized sites (krcperformance, v8performance, trucktrenz, eliteperformance, etc.) never seem upgraded as regularly, don't have all products listed, and always seem to be under some kind of construction.
BUT: The specialized sites often have better prices (especially compared to truckperformance.com) and hard to find parts. And if you call or email them you often get good service on hard to answer questions.
I just wish that all sites had all of the products that they carried on their websites. I rarely have time to call around looking for many of these parts because my job and off the job life are often busy.
I hope this came off constructively as it wasn't meant to flame anyone. I realize the constraints individuals have on their own lifes.

Message: no that's exactly what I want to hear man, actually I am partial to truckperformance.com too I just didn't want to straight out say it. It is VERY easy to find what you need, only drawback on a site like that is w/o flash/generator it would be hard to dynamically update a section considering graphic icons are used to represent sub-sections but it's all good. As for the stock situation, yeah it sucks.. in fact I always call before I order online just to be sure they have it. An "in stock, out of stock" notification on parts, just a little check-box would be nice.
Thanks man! anyone else?

Message: Well-- that's tough part of being the small guy on the block.
$10k worth of inventory sitting on the shelve can be a killer.
I only 'carry' a few items currently, but have access to much more--- I am starting off slowly-- building on what I use + have access to certain inventories that are stocked.
Nothing worse than a guy selling parts to a customer, and having no clue on how to support the product being sold.
Thus, I don't carry SCers-- don't have one, never used one personally-- so I wouldn't be the best source for that. I will eventually-- but not until I purchase one myself and go through the growing pains of the install, etc.
I'm at least honest with people on availability on items, and always have my phone with me to take calls (going to the 5000 min plan now, as the 3000 min plan ain't cutting it! :)

Message: Hey Sam what performance sites do you admire? Say it was a perfect world and you had 40+ peeps on staff that knew the products and say your shop at any given time offered 300+ parts, what existing sites would you model your "new" one after as far as navigation/user path goes? Or would it be a hybrid of a few favorites?
thanks man,
