Message: When I brake, especially in reverse, My new 2003 Dak
lets out a low tone disc howl. I still have low mileage,
just hit 1200 Km, but I expected the brake coating to
wear off by now. Any similar experience? I hope it's
not a truck trademark.

Message: It kind of is, Bryguy, and my '03 had it too. Mine
only has just over 300 miles on it though.
Try doing the hard-braking thing the manual
suggests. I did that and it all but stopped,
except for once since I did the hard-braking
procedure several times to seat everything. I
took it in to the dealership and they said it was
normal. In my case, anyway, it did drastically
go down.

Message: Jeremiah, thanx for the link, seems like lots
of others have this problem with the 2003's.
now I guess that I have to be concerned with
a brake life of only 17-20 thou. miles.

Message: BRYGUY, I wouldnt worry about brake life. They are a lot better than the 00-02s. A lucky co-worker has 50k on his 00 dakota brakes. The 03s should do that easy without all the problems of older models. Once they wear in a little you`ll be fine. I wouldnt consider it a problem by the way, maybe a short inconveniance. What people went through with older dakotas, now those are problems. Relax.
