Subject: Cat Back void warrenty? IP: Logged
Message: I had to sell my truck due to financial issues. It has a Gibson Cat back dual exhaust - nothing else. The buyer is telling me that when he spoke to a dealership, the exhaust will void all warranties!? He said any modifications to the engine or drivetrain voids everything. I know I've read here that this is not true - Does anyone have proof that this wont happen ?
It is still under the manufactures warranty with an extended warrety to 100,000 mi or 7 years.
Any help GREATLY appreciated!!

Cat back is just a replacement muffler & pipe. No way that voids warranty unless you've tampered with any emmissions stuff like the cat or sensors.

Message: Thanks for the info. Got it straightened out (I hope). Now he calls me back saying the truck wont pass inspection due to front brakes shaking. Thats all he could say. Now he is saying I am responsible for making repairs to the truck. We have already signed the title and he paid for and picked up the truck. I know that when I sold it there were no issues with the brakes at all.
So...am I or is he responsible ? Please Help!!
Sorry for the long posts...

Message: It sounds to me that the guy is just being a cheap prick and trying to get a free brake job. As long as the pads have meat still on them I don't think the inspection process goes so far as to check to see if the rotors are warped and need to be turned.

Message: I don't know how it is in your state but in Ohio all used vehicles, unless specifically warrented by the seller are sold "as is where is" What this means is the buyer not the seller is responsible for the condition of the vehicle at any "inspection", unless the seller says different in writting.

Message: His fault... you never buy a truck or car that hasn't been
inspected. He has to eat the money for the new rotors
or have them shaved to get rid of the shimmy.
You Win... he loses.

Message: Like the others said, his loss.
You're a private party (not dealer) so NO warranty is of any kind. Once he pays for it, its his.
