I just got back from Wally world and M1 is now 22.42 in a 5 q jug. Those who predicted the price jump were right. I think I'll go to BJ's wholesale to get a M1 six pack for 23.99.

Message: The 5qt jugs of Mobile 1 here at wally world are $18.65, plus my mom gets a 10% discount because she is the cashiers accountant. I just had her get it and then used her garage so I didn't dirty up my own, great system.

A bit off topic but I wanted to share with you my experience. This is not for the DIY and buying 5 qt jugs at W-MART and messing up the cement in your mothers garage. This is info for those of us that like to have someone else do the dirty work for us.
I went to the QUICKIE LUBE a week or so ago. Advertised $13.95 complete oil change (inc. filter) with 15 point check and free car-wash.
I asked the attendant what type of oil I got for $13.95, and he said that it came from the hose (pumped in) and he did not know what oil -- just the viscosity.
I told the attendant I wanted synthetic oil and he pointed at Castrol Syntec, and told me $5 per bottle -- wife's car and it held 5 qts. (5 qts. x $5 = $25). I knew Syntec was not 100% synthetic -- so I asked for Mobil1.
The attendant told me Mobil1 was $8 per bottle (5 x $8 = $40). I went with Mobil1 but when I got my bill it stated that I got a QuakerState oil filter (YUCK). I asked the attendant and he said that QS filters were what they used and a Mobil1 oil filter would have been $15 extra (WTF?). That would have put me at a $55 oil change + tax and tip = $60.
I was pissed. Good oil and bad filter for $40. Had I known and asked for M1 filter -- good oil and good filter would have cost me $60.
I asked the attendant if I could bring my own oil and filter next time and he said yes. I asked what the charge would be and he said $10 if I supply the oil and filter.
My Analysis: Next time I am going to go with the best. I have priced Amsoil and it comes to about $45 for the oil and filter (including tax and shipping) + $10 for the quickie lube to switch it out = $55 per oil change.
I can get the best and still save about $5 using Amsoil vs. Mobil1. Plus I will only need to change the Amsoil twice a year. Once just before summer, and once just before winter, approx every 8k - 10k miles = only 2 changes per year (18k - 20k miles per year).
2 changes for me = $110 per year (ain't bad).
Changing yours every 3k - 4k miles costs you $20 (per jug) x 4 changes = $80 for the oil + $40 (4 filters) for filters = $120 (and you get dirty greasy). Me ..... I just have coffee and wait.
Who is the smarter. Plus I don't have to change my own oil when it is 10 degrees and snowing.
Here is the bottom line:
Make sure you know what you are getting first -- or you may get it up the bung-hole later.
Signed,
PissedInVA

- from the Mobil 1 website:
Mobil 1® comes as standard equipment in some of the finest production vehicles you can buy. It's "factory fill" in Chevrolet Corvette, all Porsches, Mercedes-Benz AMG models, Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang Cobra R and all Aston Martin cars. Here are some remarks from some of the top engineers and executives at these renowned manufacturers.
"Every car produced in the factory in Stuttgart gets its first oil from Mobil 1. And that means that all our cars and engines are developed with that product."
– Herbert Ampferer, Director,
Porsche Motorsports
"Mobil 1 is the only oil we use for our engines as the first filling. And then we put the sticker in the engine compartment just to make sure that people know what's in their engines."
– Domingos Piedade, Managing Director,
Mercedes-Benz AMG
"Based upon the results we saw several years ago in endurance racing with Team Shelby, we felt Mobil 1 could do the job in the Viper, Dodge's highest-performance sports car."
– Charlie Brown III, Viper Engine Supervisor,
DaimlerChrysler Corporation

frederick ??? Hollywood ??? Who are you ??? Do you sell lingere in Los Angeles ??? You keep posting your $hit, and I'll keep rebutting you!
For your uneducated mind. (Rebutting: Definition: (1)To refute, especially by offering opposing evidence or arguments, as in a legal case. (2)To repel.
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL. You always post the same article, but always with a different name. Why? Don't you understand by now? McDonalds is in every school lunchroom everywhere in my home state. Does that mean McDonalds burgers are better than Burger King? the best for my kids? NO ! It's called low bid. They beat out Burger King. Mobil1 undercut the competition AND paid to be the official oil in those vehicles. In response to this they get their name on the oil filler cap. NASCAR and the NASCAR NEXTEL CUP ??? Does this mean that every race car driver carries a Nextel phone in the race car to communicate with the pits, and to call their wives. NO ! It's called corporate sponsorship. pay to play.

Message: XXX do you really think auto makers like Mercedes and Porsche are going to put an inferior product into there cars and take the risk of having there name associated with a crap oil? I don't think so, they may get paid, but they use Mobile 1 cause they like it.

Message: Just curious....has anyone heard of Redline Race oil? Yes...it is more expensive than Mobile 1 (in most cases) But I was just curious if anyone uses it. I run the stuff and it works excellent. In fact, all my friends that run drag cars run Redline. Redline in the engine, rear ends, transmissions....the list goes on. I run it in my street bikes and race it in a desert bike. If the question is about quality oil...Redline may be the answer. It's expensive. But you get what you pay for. Mobile 1 isn't bad either. But I can't afford to take a chance in high output applications. Just thought I'd throw out my two cents on this controvsial subject. Later all.

Has Mobil One moved up in price in stores other than Walmart? Costco still has a 6 pack case at $23 but I wonder if this price will hold.

Message: Its up to 22.42 a 5qt jug in both walmarts in athens, ga. this price increase has me seriously thinking of changing. Not cost efficient anymore at that price. I would rather buy amsoil or redline than go to walmart, the home of the price increase, on one of the few items I buy there.
