I know that Mark really appreciated all the donations, but only 24 people donated. Out of how many that are on here all the time? Thats not enough to keep things going and then it just got ignored. Everyone can still get on, read, and post. Mark is just giving a few perks to those who want to become paying members. Its not like you cant do anything that you couldnt do before. Only difference is your name is a not listed as registered.

Bob - What do you mean about Bernd "using" Mark? I look forward to a response before anything more is said. BUT, be aware that I have known Bernd through the DML for years and he is not a user.

I am doing all I can in order to keep the site up. I have been working 16-20 hour days, 7 per week to get new software running and to update the site. Software and bandwidth aren't cheap. I originally thought I could do without memberships and work with donations but 99.9% didnt donate. Therefore I am doing all I can to give incentives for people to join. I dont understand why everyone feels I took the site away from them. Its still free and I will keep it that way as long as I can. THe only thing that has changed is that members can only register for the forums. Newly improved forums. You can now have pictures by your posts and a more in depth profile which will look much nicer when I'm done with them.

I cant go with a hosting company. that is not an option. If I wanted to coloc 5 servers it would cost nearly $1500 - $2000 a month.

Mark I understand and agree totally with your membership fees,and I dont think your taking anything away,it just seemed kinda funny to send a donation and shortly after I am suddenly not a member anymore and must send more money to be one.I think you are doing a good job and I dont mean to hassle you.I will probably join in the near future.

Do you know Bernd, well I do and he is a very stand up guy and would never use anyone he is president of the Texas Chapter of my club DakotaUSA. Yes he advertises on Marks site but he pays for that and he has donated lots of things to Mark for it. Bernd is providing a service and he is giving us special pricing for being members. Bernd is not useing anyone he is trying to help everyone. And Mark keep up the good work the site looks great.

in my opinion, you should go with this forum http://www.vbulletin.com/ I think you can do alot more with it, as far as using bb code etc.. I here it is faster and more stable than the UBB.
JMHO. I will join soon, should have alot of OT coming up. BUTT, if you change the board over, I might be quicker...... j/k

vbulletin looks like a possibility. Its only $165 whereas UBB is $4,299. The reason that this forum is getting slower is because it is all perl. The vbulletin uses php and mysql. I dont have these installed on the server but I will try it out and install a freeware version to see if it works. Thanks for the help.

I donated and later became a joint member of dodgedakotas.com and dakotausa.com. I've got a total of $55 invested in this site. My dakotausa membership saved me around $100 on my shaker hood. I don't feel like I've been taken for a ride!!!!!!!!
I think we've beaten this membership fee business to death. We all know that some are for it and some are against it. Let's just give it a rest and get back to talkin' the truck stuff that we're all here for.

Just to set the record straight, Mark never asked for a dime! If you go back and read the original post on donations I did it. It was my idea. I knew that Mark was have trouble with the money to keep the site up so I thought that maybe if everybody knew what was up, that there was enough stand up guys that really liked this site that they would be glad to chip in a little and help out. I was wrong. There were only a few. To all those who donated I appeciate your willingness to help keep the site up. I really like this site and did not want to see it fold up. Mark did not ask for anything from anyone. I did it all voluntarily. The only way this site would stay up was for Mark to start trying to bring in some money. He has been trying to improve it to offer more to everyone but this cost money too. Bob, thank you for your donation, it was appreciated, but give it a rest. Everyone knows by know that you dont like the membership fee. Fine, dont get a membership. Lets just drop it and get back to trucks ok.

This is still free. I don't understand. Both the message board and chat room are free. 99.8% of the visitors this month haven't contributed a penny, but they are free to use it freely and have done so. I am just putting more of my efforts to add things for those who will appreciate them more. Some people aren't interested in having a picture, some are. Why should everyone pay for the 20 or so people who want to have thier pictures posted. Some want to have an email address some don't. Some members want a website at DodgeDakotas.com and are willing to pay for it while other members only want basic membership. I'm just trying to direct the fees to those who will benefit from them and not have to bother the ones who dont. Wouldn't it be nice if the government worked this way?

I'll try to explain what the rub is in a nice way. It is not the $30. Everyone knows you have to pay to play. The problem is that some people donated to help. When there wasn't enough donations, the rules changed. Memberships are available. The problem is that the 24 guys that donated did not get the option to apply their donations to the membership price. A second problem is that our information was kicked out with no warning. We thought that at least the people that had enough interest in the site to help out should have been given more courtesy there too. The third point is a valid one that Bob brings out. That is that there is at least 2 other sites that will allow you to have the automatic signature feature and there is no charge. This is not a slam at Mark but simply a factand some people will be drawn to those because of this feature. I don't know how the other sites do it but they do. We all recognize that the site is still free for everyone and Mark's hard work trying to keep it up.
Mark - I am sorry for the trouble I caused you when I used my son's email address on a posting the other day.

A Donation is just that,a donation. Given freely with no strings attached. Not enough of us would part with even $5.00 to help out Mark. We thought that everone would rally around the cause and pitch in. Well only 24 of us did that and Mark had to switch to plan B. It's still free to use, just has a nice feature or two extra if you join. Hell it's like 10 cents a day or less!
It's the best site going for us Dakers and I think it's a bargan. Keep in minde Mark intent and that is to keep the site open, not make a fortune.

As for the best site, I will say that Mark has done his job but what we are attracting here is a bunch of people that seems to want us to tell them how to get plenty of hp without spending any money. Talk of how to build serious hp and how to get it to the ground just ain't happening. I am now visiting 3 dakota sites plus 2 for F-body/LS1 and I haven't found any one of the Dakota sites to be better than the other for my usage. The Firebird sites have more technical information coming from the responders. JMO

Just wondering when it became a bad thing to want to get the most power for the least amount of money. Some people may not have the money to spend to build an full blown race engine. Some people may just want to know how to get the most power they can with what they can afford.

Once again you are not reading what I am saying or I am not getting it across properly. There is no sin in not knowing and there is no offense in in your questions or any others. I can tell people about 180 degree t-stats and 3924's all day. When you and any others learn the simple, easy, and cheap stuff you will want to know about the more technical stuff. We need that too. My point is we have the low dollar stuff covered. We need more high po people. If in fact you aren't into stroker motors and which bumpstick will work best with the Mopar PCM yet, just stick around. You will be. You will be glad to tell someone which muffler works the best on a ??year Dak while looking for information to take yours to a higher level, and yes, You will want the lowest price too (unless you win the lottery). This got to sounding ugly and that is not how I intended it. We all want to Experience the Power....and mo power....and mo power...

You are right. The more you learn the more you want to know. It was just sounding like you didn't want to be bothered with those who didn't know that much. Sorry if I was misunderstanding you. Just for the record, I do know a little about engines. My grandfather is a retired mechanic who spent time working for Ford, Chevy, and Dodge/Chrysler. My father is pretty good to and they have taught me quite a bit. I do know enough to know when I'm out of my league. I don't know squat about building a race engine. In 12 years all I have ever owned are 4x4's with the exception of a 94 Lightning. It didn't need a lot done to it. :-) Anyway, sorry if there was confusion.

Bob, Chopped liver is not true. Two hours before you started this thread I replied to your email and told you to contact me on the phone. I was willing to work with you to figure out a way to make everyone who donated happy so we wouldn't have to go through all this. You didn't reply to my email nor did you call me. We can all work this out without having anyone feel like chopped organs. I have put an incredible amount of effort into this site over the past year, do you really think I had a master scheme to make people feel used? My intentions were to have it continue to be free while advertisers would pay the bills. I have tried several advertising companies and every single one of them turned out to be fraudulent. I have pressure on me to pay the bills, therefore I have to extend the pressure in the form of membership fees. These are not mandatory and in fact, extended benefits are offered to those who join. I will be looking for replies so we can come up with a solution to this which seems to be a problem.
