Subject: How to tell if block is cracked? IP: Logged
Message: I bought a used 5.9L from a junk yard and ran into a few problems. The driver-side either overheated or blew a head gasket or both. I had the heads tested and that head has a crack in it. Is there a way I can tell if the block is cracked without taking it anywhere? I am going to return whatever is cracked thats why I am asking.
Thanks
Dan

Message: Tear it down and look at it. Check for cracks. On the downside, youll have to put it all back together, otherwise I wish you good luck.

Message: The only way to be sure is to have the block wet magged, same process they used on heads. A reputable machine shop should be able to take care of it for you.
