Subject: cold air intake?

"cold" air intake is a RICER term, all these new dak owners think they can just buy a tube and a cone and get tons of "cold" air, like somehow doing this creates a cooling down process for the air, tests done to engine air temps on the stock air intakes and 3 aftermarket show that the air temp was within 3 degrees, except for the non-plastic ones, which where up to 20 degrees hotter then the stock air box! . also turbo lag is a RICER term.

I dont know what your talking about, cold air intakes have been proven to add HP by giving the engine cooler air. And turbo lag, thats been around since turbos started, the people that drive souped up hondas did not create either of these terms, get it right.

The first time I saw the term "Cold Air Intake" being used, was in reference to the system being used by the NASCAR and SCCA Trans AM series, where the factory teams were drawing outside air from the low-pressure junction of the vehicle's cowl (the base of the windshield, or the defroster plenum). That was back in the 1960's.

Turbo Lag? Porsche 911 Turbos where notorious for turbo lag, back in the mid-1970's, due to a combination of a big, single turbo, low compression, and small displacement.

I remember an article, circa 1980, where a journalist writing for Car & Driver magazine, asked a Pontiac engineer, "Why don't you offer a manual transmission with the 4.9 liter Turbo motor in Trans Ams and Formulas?". The Pontiac engineer answered that it wasn't worth the trouble of getting it emissions certified, as the
manual trannied test mule that they built for testing, had an unacceptable amount of turbo lag, while the automatic equipped vehicle did not.

They had Z cars before 1958?

Just kidding, Handi2. I realize that was meant for some one else.

The first Turbo Regals, had horrible lag as well, despite being automatics. I'm referring to the carburated versions, 1978 or so.

Speaking of Z cars, do you remember the Scarab? The SB Chevy conversion for the first gen Z cars?
