Subject: Drop Kits?? IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a totaled 99 dakota for $3,200
and the truck is completed now for roughly
$4,500. I don't want to spend more then $500
to lower it, so, What is the overall best method
to use? I have heard that spindles reduce tire
wear and that shackles and hangers are too
much trouble for what they are worth.
Also, I have seen kits that lower the front and
back at dif. heights (3"/5") what is the purpose
for this? Is it possible to go 3" all around?
sorry for so many questions but I wanna do
this right...
THANKS A LOT

Message: i bought rear 5 inch hanger/shackle kit used for 90 bucks, and i bought 3 inch front coils from sprintech for 80 bucks. that will give me a 3/5 drop for about $170, and it rides way better then stock. next month i live order a set of shocks, those should be about 30-40 dollars each. u want a bigger drop in the back (5in) then the front b/c on 2x4, the back is always higher, so 3/5 will almost even it out but not quite, so it will still be raked. i think that only the 4x4 daks have the same wheel gap in back and front. before my drop, my rear gap was horrible. my 2 cents

Message: they dont make lowering spindles for this gen dakota...
you choice up front are control arms (a-arms) or coils. i used coils.
for the rear you can use shackles and hangers or blocks. youll more then likely want steel blocks so they dont crack.

Message: RT13, A FEW MISTAKES, U FORGOT TO MENTION THAT HE CAN ALSO USE NEW LOWERING LEAF SPRINGS FOR THE REAR, ALSO EXTRUDED ALUMINUM IS ALOT STRONGER THEN STEEL, AND U DIDNT SAY THAT THE BLOCK SHOULD BE PINIONED.
