Subject: Wow, 21.47 MPG. IP: Logged
Message: I just filled my truck and checked the gas mileage. I went 315.7 miles on 14.7 gallons. That figures out to 21.47 miles per gallon. I can't believe how good that is. It is a 2002 Dakota SXT 4x4 with a 3.9L and 3.92 axle ratio. The truck only has 930 miles. That was around town driving too. My speed never exceeded 45mph. I drive VERY slow and accelerate from stop like and old lady. I drive this way top conserve gas since it is so expensive lately but I was not expecting those kind of results. My truck is all stock except for 10-30 Mobil 1 oil.

Message: Hey Intense, 25mpg is very good. But don't forget, mine is a 4X4. I was only expecting 14 or 15 at best.

Message: Well, maybe I am clueless but whats with the Canadian border talk? I live in Mass. You know Intense, I was going to do an intake and exhaust. I am 40 years old and have never left one single car I have owned stock. My last car was a 2001 Focus with H&R coilovers,18" wheels and tires and a Jackson Racing Supercharger. It was a fun little car but it got stolen. I am putting tires and wheels on the Dakota and a K&N airfilter and maybe a limited slip with a set of bilsteins and thats all. I am not going to screw with the exhaust or the intake. I am going to leave well enough alone. I also don't want to take a chance at the gas mileage. Most people don't get near that with their 3.9's.

Message: I just checked my mileage for the last week, 16.45 MPG. Not bad for mostly city driving and 2 days of well below freezing weather.

Message: Some people like to rag on the 3:92 ratio, but with conservative driving habits, you can get some awesome city mpg numbers. I get 18.3 city and 19 hwy(70-75 mph)with my 4.7 5-speed RC 3:92.

Message: My Quad cab 4x4 4.7 with the 5 speed Auto has gotten 20.3 mpg! I have the 355 axels and even in the step slope dirt gravel roads in 4x4 I have avraged better than 15.5. My older 99 Club Cba 4x4 withthe old 4 speed auto 318 was luck to get 12 to 13.5 mpg. Once I got 16 on a long trip. I do the spped limit and am fairly easy on the gas. By no means will I ever get a ticket for going to slow. the Overhead cam and much improved electrical spark system has got the old push rod engines beat, I think. My 4.7 hauls and I like the way it sounds like a V8 when I was younger in the early sixties. My old 283 clouldn't hold a candle to this power packed stock engine.
