Message: isn't there a top speed govenor on our Dakota's that the factory installed as a standard. I ask because I have had mine up to 105mph and it was still pulling. I could have sworn it was supposed to be around 98mph but I guess not.

Message: All depends, Mine was set at 115 mph, some at 117 mph, and some at 98 mph. It all depends on things like steel or aluminum drive line, etc. etc. I had mine flashed to 135 mph.

Message: Just hold the key in the start position and you won't have a top spee limiter at all.
Dude, Yates-in-DE, have you ever had yours hit the 135 speed limiter?
I doubt it but I'm just wondering.

Message: I've run it setting on the 135 mph Speed Limiter many times for 20 and 30 mile Stretches (but of course that was while the truck and I was living in Germany). I will tell you this, after the flash about 129 mph is the trucks limit, so in order to go that fast I had to do some modifications, such as Cams, T-body, Exhaust, lowering, Clutch Fan Removal, Intense Z-tube, and others. It will now lay up on that 135 mph Limiter and hum like that all day long. Look at my Signature pick, that is a true pic of 120.

Message: There is a sensor at the rear axle...if you disconnect that it'll get rid of the limiter but you won't have a speedo till you plug it back in. You may also throw a code but it'll bypass the speed governor

Message: That's cool,
What kind of lowering setup do you have on the truck and how does it ride compared to stock?
I like it.
Also, are you running factory gears or did you get new ones and have your speedo sensor reset?
Thanks,
Matt

Message: It is a BellTech 2x3 Drop, and it rides like a sports car. I had to trim the bump stops a bit. I have the factory 3.92's, but I have in a box sitting next to me here some 4.56's, and I'm waiting on the Powertrax to come in so I can change them out. and as long as you don't change the tire sizes the speedo will still be correct with a gear change.

Message: Sweet,
I have a set of Belltech 2" blocks in the back and a set of 2" springtech's waiting for the front, but I could use another inch in the back. Yours looks sweet man. 4.56 is a low gear!!
I just changed tire sizes down to 245 50 16's, and that was a massive improvement over stock tires for the lower ratio. They're about 5" shorter than stock tires.
I have a Trac-Lok waiting to go in, but I'm not changing gears, so I won't have to mess with the pinion at all, just the ring backlash.
You'll need a tool to set the backlash and you can either spend $90 for the pair from Mopar, OR , you can have them made for about $8!!!!!
I found a set of nuts at NAPA with an exterior diameter of 1 7/16", and had the local steel fab shop weld these nuts onto a 3/4" solid square shaft 36" in length. The end of the shaft you're welding da' BIG NUT to has to be ground around the edges a little for the nut to slip over it.
The square shaft is perfect cuz you can grab it with a wrench. The only problem is that you have to put 70 lbs. of torque on the spanner nuts, but that's no problem, you can just use a half inch drive 3/4" crow's-foot to fit the shaft and set the tq. wrench to like 68 lbs. to compensate for the length the crow's foot adds.
I can email you some pics of the tool along with a few Great diff-install instructionals I found on the net if you'd like.
PS, could you give me some pointers on how you installed the front springs? I'd appreciate it!
let me know,
Later

Message: There are custom PCM flashes possible for some years that can raise the limit high enough that you'll never run into it.
