Subject: Widened R/T Rims? IP: Logged
Message: I have heard some say on this board that they have dakota r/t rims widened to 11 inches in the rear and would like to know where or who they went to for these rims. i have a huge traction problem and besides getting better quality tires i also wanna get much wider tires. jus wide enough so they dont rub the inner fender

Message: Haven't heard of that Joey, there are wheel spacers available but they are costly and are hell on your ball joints. I'd my truck to have a wider, more aggresive stance too. I don't want to lower my truck but if somehow I could push all 4 corners out about an inch or so that would be killer. I feel you on the traction thing, I have heard of people attempting to put viper rims on but I forgot where I heard this.

Message: some guy on here last month had his red RT catch on fire, he had 2 RT wheels widened with tires and he was selling them with the stock front tires, all for i think 1100? thats with tires, he sent me a pic of them and they look really nice, as for the ball joints comment, if u have a traction problem and u want wider rims... WHY would u care about widening the front rims and care about the ball joints?? wheel spacers??? he said he wants more traction with more rubber on the pavement, not rims sticking out the sides like a mexi-truck WTF WTF WTF figit is a F A G cmon that balljoint comment was out of hand, he wants traction in the back not the front!! damnn and if would rub with those wide rims in the front.

Message: No $hit, I understood what he wanted but it made me think about what I'd like and that's to have my wheels out about an inch so they are flush with the stock fender flairs on my R/T. I'd also like better traction so a possible solution would be a wider R/T rim. I HATE most aftermarket rims, you'll never see chrome on my truck nor will it rest any lower than it is right now. You just misunderstood me, and yes wheel spacers are hell on ball-joints which is exactly why I will never use them.

Message: My little red truck caught fire. Yes I had 2 of the rims widend 2". Its been so long but I think I had it done at Wheels America. I had to buy 2 donor rims plus 150per to get them done. They fit no problem no rubbing, but your going to have to run a shorter tire probably 26" tall instead of 28". Reason being is there is only one tire available that is 28" tall and approximatly wide enough but is costs 425per so that will probably be out of the question. I ran 315/35/17 BF Goodrich Drag Radials They are a little under 26" tall and they hook really well. Another problem is that unless you have a drop your truck will look goofy with shorter tires.

A number of people on my Mustang forum have used weldcraft. Very satisfied. They charge 185 per rim. One note after reading the widening posts, I not sure of the clearance on the back of the Dakota but you may need spacers. Widening will only add to the back side of the rim, increasing the back spacing.
