Subject: weird noise..please help!!!! IP: Logged
Message: OK, i have an absolutely weird noise coming from under the truck and have no friggen clue what it is/could be... here's what happening...the noise is on the pass. side and the sound is like the mud flap is stuck on really nobby tires, but it's under the truck. It happens no matter what speed i am going but seems worse at highway speeds, there is also a vibration that comes with the noise, you can feel it in the pass side, the thing is it doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally, when it does it i have stopped asap and looked under the truck but see nothing that can rub and nothing is in a bind, so i am at a loss, i would take it to the dealer but i know they are gonna give me the "cannot duplicate problem" answer. so if anyone has had this problem, please help me before i go insane, and thanks guys...the truck is a 97 CC 4x4 5.2 auto.

Message: I know i need an alignment, but i am waiting till new tires go on, the set on now are near the end. this is what i was thinking, bad alignment, balance, etc.,, the sound is closer to the front than rear, as far as mods recently i put the new flowmaster on but thats it, and no it's not the exhaust noise, so i guess i will see what happens when the new tires go on and i get it aligned and balanced.

Message: might want to look at the cat. converter. they have a bad habit of breaking up and i have seen several that rattled on and off when driving sounding like playing card in the spokes of a bicycle. you might hear the rattle echo inside the flowmaster creating a louder than normal sound

Message: chris, it doesn't seem to matter what speed or rpm, the noise has came when i was doing as little as 20-25 mph or going 75 down the highway, thats why i can't figure it out, and no matter what the speed or rpm the noise is exactly the same. I thought at first maybe it was vibration from the driveshaft, but when i hear it, it sounds like it is to far over on the pass. side, i have went under the truck and checked the shaft and universals and they feel and look good, no damage or slop, all is pretty tight under there. Other thing is, is it didn't do it at all yesterday, but the day before it did it like 6-7 times. damn if i can figure it out..........

Message: What mods do you have on the truck? The mopar headers have been known to rub a bolt on the pass fire wall if you don't trim it down.

Message: I have a 99' Dakota and it makes the same sound, but not all the time. I have replaced the rotars, callipers, bearings, brake pads, upper A arm, and the drive axel. The noise is still there. I notice it when it is when I drive slower. I was told it might be in the transmision or transfer case. I can't find the noise either.

Message: My 03, 5.9, 4x4, QC did this under load (when going up hill in OD) off and on. Brand new truck, drove me nuts. I thought it must be the TC. Took nine months (I was afraid to let my dealer start tearing into it) for me to find out what it was but after I plumbed my intake into the fender well it never happened again. It was the air horn attached to the air filter box. It does just hang there and either from engine vibration or from just sucking in air it must start vibrating badly and transferred the vibration and noise through the whole engine compartment and cab. Why some do it and others don't I can't answer. Good Luck!

Message: Chesire,
I have a 99 Dak CC 5.2V8, had the same problem.I replaced the rotors, brake pads, calipers, front wheelbearings upper and lower balljoints, and it was still there. My buddy told me to replace the caliper bushings(those stupid metal sleeves on the caliper the bolts go through)So I replaced them and haven't had the noise anymore.when they wear out they allow the caliper to move back and forth.
