Subject: Auto Trans Capable of 250,000+ IP: Logged
Message: For people who have alittle more knowledge about the Automatic Transmission then i do, is the Auto trans capable of going 250,000+ miles if you keep up with the maintenance without needing a rebuild or any other major/costly repairs?

Message: Thanks for the reply. I just trying to find out how durable and reliable the Auto tranny is. I hear people say that a manual tranny will last longer then the Auto, but I want to know if you keep up with the maintenance if you can make the Auto last as long as a Manual without any major repairs. Thanks

Message: I really like an auto when I'm in stop and go traffic for an extended period of time. Pressing and releasing the clutch a 100 times and rolling at 2 mph is a pain.
If it weren't for city traffic, I might prefer the manual.

Message: After driving a manual for the last 10 years, I am ready to switch to an Auto. I know that an Auto has clutches in it also, but do these clutches last longer than a clutch in a manual tranny?

* stop and go driving
* no third pedal
* you have "PARK"
* lower final drive (better gas milage)
* doesnt loose boost between shifts
* shifts faster
* goes to the correct gear everytime
on and on and on....

Message: SR77...you'll be reaching for the "Phantom Shifter" a lot if you've been rowing for 10 years! Whenever I went from manual to auto for my daily driver, I ALWAYS got to missing the manual. (5-speed now and loving it!)

Message: I am going to disagree on the point that auto's shift faster, if your good, you can shift a lot faster than an auto.

Message: I don't think the Dodge auto tranny will make it to 250,000. I just hit 107,000 and starting having problems right around 105,000. The truck only goes about 30 miles a day at the same speed, 35 mph (to and from school). Right now it looks like I have to get a rebuild. ouch.
I would go manual anyday.
BUT this is my opinion with my own experiences.

Message: Mine went at 120K, but I think it had been abused towing a big trailer. I think you could get 250K if you took care of it. I have to drive an auto because of my back, otherwise I would go manual.
