Subject: Spare tire pressure

I acquired some R/T rims, including the spare. What is the tire pressure for spare tires? When I pulled the stock spare off, there was a sticker that said pressure set to dealer standard. What's the tire pressure for R/T spares? Thanks.

I usually refrain from poking fun at people, but don't you think that if you need the spare you would want it to have the same pressure as the other 3 tires on the truck? Does this just make sense to anybody else or is it just me?

In all seriousness, inflate to 36 lbs and make sure you change the air in your tires when you change your oil. Air goes bad too.

Glenn

your tires are rated for fifty pounds. inflate to 50 pounds so when you use them one year later they won't be low --- all tires lose air thru the rubber. little trick of the trade

Then what was up with the dealer sticker? Had to be there for a reason . . .
And Glenn, I try to refrain from having an attitude towards a question I consider genuine. I guess you must not have listened to your parents, if you have any, when they tried to teach you if you have nothing to say, don't say anything at all.

Since most of you are here for performance tips, Ill point out that the lower the vehicle wieght the quicker it is. So lower all your tires to 6 pounds per square inch. Thats 30 pounds per tire times 5 = 150 pounds. You cut 1.5 tenths off your time.

JustGotOne, keep all 5 tires at 35 psi, you'll be OK

Pretty sad when someone asks a sensible question and gets nothing but a bunch of children playing silly games.

Daksmack,

your math is off...if your spare was 150 lbs in air alone, you wouldn't be able to lift it. (ok, I'm making an asumption that you're not very strong, but just to make a point)

psi:pounds per square inch of pressure, not weight.

Just my, oh, let me dig in my pocket...yeah, three cents this time.

And yeah, this was a really good question...never thought of that one before. Thanks for the help guys!

Ryan

And I just re-read your post, and now I see that you were definately being sarcastic, but I went to all the trouble typing this thing, so I'm gonna post it anyways!

Adult - perhaps you did't notice Glenn already gave a pretty good answer to the question, wich was then challenged. "You want the truth ? You can't handle the truth."

You say Glenn gave a good answer.
He said to change the air because it goes bad.

Yep, that really was good advice to someone who is trying to learn something.

handi2, do you still have your spare, and if you do, do you have the sticker that says, "dealer set pressure?"

That plus I changed rim and tire size. That's why I asked the question. I thought most people here would be knowledgeable, and I thank the ones that have been. The other a-holes, including you, can kiss my a$$.

What a buncha babies... Cant anyone take a joke anymore? Does anyone in here with half a brain really think that a tire with 36 psi in it actually wieghs 36 pounds? OMG... If so, stop posting on here about your Dads truck and stick to your Schwin. Dude, a spare is a spare is a spare. Tires have psi ratings stamped right on the tire. Just put that much in...gezzz.

And by the way, fook a dealership sticker... Those morons expect you to drive your truck like your in a defensive drivers course video. And um, from your interest in larger tires, I doubt your just using your truck for groceries and Library visits.

I just called a service/parts place for a dealership, and the guy said that the spare from the factory is not fully inflated. The dealership takes care of it. That's where the sticker comes from. Even he admitted it's pretty stupid.

My spare didn't have enough air in it. I made an appointment with the dealer 120 miles away to fix the pressure for me.
On the way there I had a flat. I called a wrecker but they couldn't help. They didn't know how much air to put in either.
