Subject: How can I tell what rear I have?

Trying to figure if I can tow a car and the book on my 95 dakota says there are two rears possible on the SLT V6 and one can do 8000 combined and the other 9400 combined.

Look at the rear axle. If the center is more round, then you have the 8.25 rear, if it's more like a stop sign looking, then you have the 9.25 rear diff. Also, there shoudl be a sticker in your glovebox that will tell you rear diff size and gear ration.

Look on the axle itself! On mine there is a sticker right on the axle next to the leafs!! Worth a try!

there is also a small tag on the rear axle held on by a bolt that has your gear stamped into it. it will say 3.2, 3.5, 3.9 etc...

On my 92 there was a sticker under the hood that had the information on it, and in my 99 there is a sticker on the bottom of the glove box, those are some places to check before you crawl underneath
