Subject: Dash Code?????
IP: Logged

Message:
The parking brake light and the (ABS) light on my dash just lit up on and won't go off. I know all the system lights go on when the truck starts up but those two lights won't go off. I've played with my parking brake but it is fine. Is it some kind of code for the mechanics so they know what is wrong? If that's the case, how much will it cost? I have a 99' Dakota.

Thanks!!

A far as the ABS light, I don't know, I'll look it up in Haynes in just a minute for ya.

The brake light (parking brake) is multi purpose. Yes it says when the parking brake is on, but it also signals trouble for your regular brakes. It'll say if you have excessive pedal travel (reg brakes), not enough pressure, etc. Sounds as if you have some brake problems at hand, if it's under warranty.....have them look at it.

I am having the same problem with my '00. I have 30,000 miles on it and the problem didn't start until I had a front on wreck. I have taken it to the dealer, but they didn't know off hand about the code that was flashing and wanted to keep the truck for two days, but I didn't have time to leave it. I am having no apparent problems with my brakes. The abs still works like I think it should (I have locked them up on gravel and did not "push" with my front tires. If anyone else is having this problem, please respond.
