Hot roding a 4 cylinder Dak is hillarious. Ha Ha ha ha ha.

Even hot roding a V8 4x4 is and that is why I sold my 5.2 4X4. Engine mods on a 4x4 other than intake and exaust really seem a little senseless on less your running the off road 1/4 mile. JMHO

actually, i dont think that any of us with the 2.5L are trying to "hotrod" them, we just want a little more speed. sorry, i didn't mean to be an embarrassment to the site just because im not sponsored for gas. if you would like to send me a gas card, i will gladly start saving money for some 700ci engine. sorry, but you really just hit a nerve here, none of my friends pay for gas and i get pissed because it takes me twice the amount of time to get from point A to point B than it takes them even though it takes them 2x the amount of gas but what do they care.

98sport I think you misinterpreted what was said. A few basic mods is fine but getting caught up spending $1000's would be foolish and defeat the purpose of owning a 4 cylinder. I know about budget's and gas. My first new veihicle was 2.2 94 S10. I knew it would never be a racer and that was fine. That was why I did no engine mod's and stuck with body and style. Now 6 years later I have a little more money and want a real fast truck and bought a 4.7 sport.

Not entirely true there jeffster. Getting more power out of a 4x4 can be very useful for going off road and a lot of other things. You dont have to be racing one to use the power. LIke uh maybe towing a trailer, pulling out someone that is stuck, or a number of other reasons. Different mods make power in different ways. Some make nore torque, others more high end HP. You may be able to smoke me in the 1/4 mi but lets see who can pull the most weight. If I wanted to go fast I'd have gotten 2x4. My point is that everyone has different situations and needs. We should focus more on helping each other out and not ragging each other. Lets work on the same side here. :-)

Jeffster,
Let me try to elighten you! I have a 98 4x4 5.2l and I am also in the middle of modding the piss out of it. I'll laugh at being able to walk off and leave folks in the dust in my little ol 4x4, on dry pavement, wet pavement, and any other terrain. Let's do a 1/4 mile in the snow . There are a lot of reason's to pump up a 4x4, I need speed before I can run over all the low-riders out there , the drop on those puppies make GREAT launch pad ramps!

I agree that because of the drivetrain and a little bit of lbs the 4x4's are in a different class than the 2wd's, but heh if I wanted raw speed I'd have an SVT modded to the hilt.

So what is the best 1/4 mile times for a 5.2L 4x4?

As far as 4 bangers go, my old Chrysler Conquest TSI topped 150MPH STOCK. Granted, it was turbocharged, but by the time I blew her up she had seen 187MPH. 18MPG city, 25MPG HWY.

Valid points and that was why it was JMHO. I will recant my statment. For what I wanted to acheive I couldn't do it practicly with my 98 4x4 C.C. I did the off roading thing and it was fun but couldn't myself justify dumping money on engine mod's. The only thing I will miss is the confidence I had when it snowed but snow is so rare on the west coast it wasn't worth it for that reason.

As for running over R/T's you have to catch em first!!

My whole point here guys is that we all have different needs, taste's, etc. But the bottom line is we all have Dakotas. Lets concentrate on the fact that they are good looking, strong trucks (with the exception of the occasional factory flaw) that can go fast on road and off. Lets help each other make them even better so that we can say the competition can't touch us on road, off road, or in looks!! :-)

Kenny you are not embarrassment to the site,I didn't mean to hammer on any 4cly owner's,after all you will be going waaaaaaaaaaaaay down the road with allot less gas than I'll use in my V8.I think what I mean is maybe save your money for a V8 or put a V8 in your truck if you need the speed and if you get good gas mileage with that 4 why mess with it,you start putting speed parts on it and you are just shooting you foot!

I'm with Bob. Bernd only pops in over here to pitch his new site. We need some one that can tell us how to put 4.7 in an older Dakota that had a 3.9 or some such stuff.
Hey Bob - My Email is down tonight. I'm attempting to fix it myself. Anyone out there have any blasting caps?
