Subject: Deals on special orders IP: Logged
Message: Heh. I am just wondering: When you special
order a truck, do you try to deal with the dealer
on it? Price it all out, then offer a bit less?
Just wondering. I have never special ordered
a truck before and wouldn't want to get
laughed at if the truck I want isn't on the lot and
I pulled that out of my butt ; )
Thanks in advance,
jim

Message: I sat with my ex when she ordered a Grand Cherokee. After she marked what she wanted, the salesman put it in a computer and it gave us the price. I don't think you can do much if any haggling over the price. I'm not sure if the dealer makes much if any off of an ordered vehicle. But that was just my one experience. I'm sure there's someone on here that can help you out a little more.

Message: Steve-o,
Thanks for the reply. I just remembered
something, that I more than likely wouldn't get
either the great APR or the cash back unless I
bought from dealer inventory.

Message: i almost ordered a dakota (ended up buying off lot) and i would of got all incentives, also i would of been credited any additional incentives that occured between then and when my truck came in (if they added up to more than original incentives). assume its the same for everyone, didnt make any "special deals", i just asked about it.
paid 24.2k on truck (after all rebates) that listed at 29.3 and could of done better.(guilty of i want it now,no patience) someone here posted they paid 20k for truck listed at 30k (relative or someone he knew worked at dealer) and i believe him. they didnt lose money, im sure if i offered 22.5 and stuck with it i would of got it, with the dealer still making a fair profit. i keep checking the inventory of dealership where i bought my truck and nothings moving. truck just like mine except it has anti-lock brakes, still there. (bought mine 12-29-03)
they are hurting so dont overpay.
good site to get prices with different options. i got my truck for 1k less than this buy on line site.
www.carsdirect.com/new_cars/search?linktype=deep&partner=LINK&customerid=7YCqqWjPX3o-iWHJXGDFwG8qC0uo%2AqtwyA
best i could do for ordered truck that listed out at a little over 30k was 25.5k, at time figured they would take 24.5. found one i have now, choked on it and here i am.
good luck

Message: I special ordered my truck. It is the best choice. You get everything you want at the best price. I got my 02 Dakota 4x4 Quad Cab for invoice minus the rebate at the time minus the $500 Farm Buerea rebate minus 2/3 of the dealer hold back money. Holdback money is 3% of MSRP. As you can see, special ordering really is the way to go.

Message: I special ordered mine and got all the rebaits.
I make my dealer price match a base module quad cab at another dealer and then we added options ontop of that.
saved my about $6,000 off the sticker.

Message: Yes You absolutely can and should haggle on an ordered vehicle. I just got my ordered truck about a month ago, took about 5 weeks. My dealer came down very quickly when I hinted I was ready to go somewhere else. You shoyuld get any rebates available at the time of DELIVERY, not when you ordered it. Which for me was the same, But you have to think about what will happen to the rebates in a month or so. I don't believe the rebates will get any higher, So they have nowhere to go but down, mine was $3k plus 300 for a commercial license or small business. You should go to carbuyingtips.com They have alot of info there.

Message: I ordered a '03 Quad cab and paid 2% under invoice, got the $3K rebate, and also the $500 Farm Bureau rebate. You won't do much better than this. This was the third dealer I went to, the first two wanted to play games.
Join your local farm bureau for the $500 rebate. You will need to be a member for 30 days prior to taking possession of your truck (plenty of time if you order it). Cost me $42 to save $500.
Next, have them add the clause "Sold order protection" to your order. It will guarantee the current rebate or the next rebate (which ever is higher).
If you are trading in a vehicle be prepared to practically give it to them. Used cars are worth very little with all the low financing and rebates on new cars.
Hope this helps,
Scott

Message: Unless you are buying a very popular car like a Corvette don't pay anymore than invoice. The current economy is slow and car sales are very slow. They will take your business at or below invoice to keep the lights on and people. They still make their dealer holdback and plus some even at invoice or under.

Message: I have had several good experiences using car loans through www.peoplefirst.com You can apply online and get an answer quickly and they have decent rates. The real benefit of their system is that once approved they send you a blank check which is good up to a certain amount. Simply take it to the dealership, make your best deal, then give them the opportunity to beat your percentage rate. If they can that is great, but it puts you in control and you can walk out at anytime if the dealer pulls any funny business and shop elsewhere.
