What determines which generation my Dakota is in? I know it is based on the year, mine is a '92. What gen is this? I know it is a stupid question, but we all have to start somewhere, and I just got my dakota two weeks ago. Thanks!

It's basical the body styles. Gen I is something like 88-90, Gen II is 90-95 and Gen III is 96 and on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think thats about right.

87-91 Gen 1 92-96 Gen 2 97-03 Gen 3 the 1991 model is actually a Gen 1.5 has the sixlug and body styling of the Gen 2 but has the Gen 1 engines.

i work for a dealership, and i 100% sure that the first gen 1 daks started in 1983. check it, its everywhere on the net
